New rider needs some help
#1
Hi everyone
I just bought bought my first quad (05 350 raptor) and I had a few questions about mods. I would really appreciate if you can answer one or all of my questions.
1) What is the difference between a silencer, pipe and exhaust , or are they all the same thing?
2) who sells the best ones?
3) Does anyone know about a High performance CDI or a high Performance Regulator/ Rectifier? Do they give you more rps and power?
Thanks for your replies.
Andy

Welcome to the forums Andy and congrats on your purchase.
1) basically they are all the same thing. Just three ways of saying it.
2) Whew, that comes down to strictly opinion. There are a number of manufacturers out there making quality exhausts. You need to determine what kind of riding style you have, where you are going to be riding, and what kinds of modifications you will be doing in the future. All these variables need to be considered when purchasing a pipe.
3)I haven't yet seen an aftermarket CDI for the Raptor 350. Generally, aftermarket CDI's raise your rev limiter and often change your timing curves. Keep an eye on Dyna Ignitions and Ron Woods Racing. They may be working on one, I don't know. You'll find there's not a lot of call for aftermarket ignitions on warriors and Rap 350's.

Hey ande,
I have a Wolverine which is very similiar to your Raptor engine wise. I really like my HMF silencer (the silencer is similiar to a car muffler and can be "slipped on" the head pipe). It is a little loud, but can be quietened down with a quiet core insert. It really uncorks the 350 and can be found at www.hmfengineering.com There are many exhaust manufacturers out there and I would recommend perusing through a Dirt Wheels mag or maybe a Rockymountainatv catalog to see which pipe is pleasing to your eye, because there are many shapes and sizes. The head pipe can also be replaced with an aftermarket and some atv's benefit from this mod more than others. You will have to ask someone with a Warrior/Raptor aftermarket headpipe if the gains were worth the money.
