Front Sproket nut fell off
#1
When you are married with children, it's a special day when you get to ride with the buds.
5 miles into the trip, It felt like neutral in all gears. I freaked...I thought I lost the tranny. But I noticed the front sprocket nut was gone....and the sproket slid off the spline.
I walked back couple miles looking for it. No luck. Big bummer. (I found 5 bucks though)
How come it came off? There is a tab there that stops it from backing off. Are you supposed to use locktite?

Same thing happened to me, I was hill shooting and thought i had hit neutral near the top of the hill. Luckily had enough momentum to clear it. Looked down and saw oil pouring out from my front sprocket. To this day i dont knwo what made it come off. They are usually so tight you cant hardly break them when changing sprockets. I would not use locktite, you will never get it off. I just bought a new tab thing and made sure i tightened the nut to spec. No problems since. Also hold the back brake when tightening that nut.
