Not really...... "this thread " is more like a --mini kodiak 450 forum --within the yamaha forum,
if you would read all the 165 post you would see that there is all kinds of topic in there, brakes , trans , greasing drive shafts pictures, head light and so on....

there is really not mouch problem with this machine at all , I love it ..the best quad i ever had !!!!
now that I removed the rear sway bar and the rear suspension is really independent it is an awsome ride over rough terrain.
also I was able to get a stock set of Grizzly rims (aluminum) with stock tires, it bolted right up.
the grizzly rims(front and rear ) are off set a bit wider than the kodiak rims , so it acts like installing spacers between the wheel and the hub.
tires are the same size, a bit more agressive pattern. i like it !!!!!!

since the machine was new , everything has improoved as it got broken in. Better gas milage, more power , no brake squeek

Hey CamoKodiak450. Did you take one of your zerks off to match up the threads. I have that right angle adapter but It does not seem to work that well. I would like to change out the zerks, I am not sure witch ones to get.

Kodiak 48, I too tried the right angle adapter and could only get it to work on the left side. It always left a mess and just didnt seem to work right. I did take one zerk off and went to the local auto parts store (nappa) and on the self they had an assorment pack for about $7.50. You need to get the Metric ones and for some reason their excatly the size you need. It came with 2 90 degree zerks and 2 45 degree ones and a bunch just like the ones that are on the kodiak. I used the 45 degree on the bottom and the 90 on the top. It works great. Oh yea, I had to use a small washer on two of them to get it tight right where it is pointing at the rear. Dont over tightin them, they will snap in two. Your grease gun goes on easy and off. It just tickles me to use it after struggeling with the 90 degree angle adapter. Now I can ride and not worrie anymore. My buddys think I'm crazy cause they have never greased anything in 5 years and several never have change there oil on the yamaha's. It tells me Yamahas one tough machine, but I'll keep babing mine cause I love her!!! Change your zerks and you'll be happy you did.

Thats funny you mention that mine has that same problem. I tried to pull someone out of the mud with my winch attached to them and couldnt get them out in reverse I ended up having to put a tow strap to them and pull them in drive. I imagine you do the bypass mod like you do on the grizzly.

So CamoKodiak, was it hard to get those original zerks off in order to put in the metric replacements?

Weaver..... When pulling people out you should put your Kodiak in Neutral and put on your brakes. You can block the tires if you need extra stopping/gripping power. Then use the winch to pull people out. That is the method described in the manual. Puting your kodiak in gear and pulling that way your risk hurting your transmission. Thats what I've heard anyways. And Ramseyrider why are you wanting to go that fast in reverse anyways. Use caution trying to go faster in reverse as I did go faster once and ended up tipping my Kodiak on its side.

well there are alot of times when there is no way to chalk the tires. I have tried what you are saying and I relize thats the best way but many times it will just pull the fourwheeler when wenching thats why i use reverse and pull them if winching doesnt work and many times it doesnt. I also have a high lifter heavy duty clutch to better suit the way we ride.

Ya I am also having the problem of greasing the left side rear(looking from back). I can get it on the right side but left side it just oozes out all around the fitting. Does taking the tire off help any? Or should I just change the zerks? Like dmger14 asked...Is it hard to do? Doesn't seem like much area to work with in there. Also I have yet to find the front zerks on the machine. Does anyone have a picture or an excat location of the front zerks?

Also anyone notice there Kodiak every now and then seems like it has a miss at idle. Especially noticed when first starting up till it warms up. Then not as much. I just changed my sparkplug and I only have 44 miles on the machine and the plug seemed kinda black..Not tan like described in manual. It seems to run smoother now after replacing but still has ocasional miss sound...can take up to a minute or so when just idleing before noticing..Kinda like slightly cuts out(miss?). Now when reving up I don't notice anything.
