chains help big time in the snow. I put some on my wolverine last year and it was like a new bike I could go plaaces where I couldn't go before. you can use the chains on the ice but if you do alot of ice riding you may want to take them off for the ice. the continous thumbping of the chain put flat spots on your bearings which make them wear faster.

I have been debating the 589's, bighorns, mud bugs, mudlites, and a few other tires. I've decided on the mudlites again, I had them on my last ute. Lighter than the 589 and smoother in most conditions. You give up a little in the mud, but you gain so much more everywhere else.

Bigbreezy,
I personally think you should go with at least 26's if not bigger. I run 25's on a 350 geared way higher than the big bear. With the gearing on the bigbear you will have no problems whatsoever. Also, I do alot of riding in the snow and in the old iron ore minepits, so I understand the terrain you are working with. You will also do very well in the mud and on slow technical areas.

PS Titan 589's and itp 589's are very similar
