We put a 4 different raptors on the dyno the other day as we were doing research for a raptor pipe shootout for a local quad magazine. A stock 03 Raptor with the baffle removed and the airbox modified and re-jetted just as Sandman describes his bike put out very close to 40hp. We tested all sorts of different aftermarket pipes, and did some carb mods and got readings closer to 50hp.
Point is a stock re-retted Rap can easily make 40hp.

I cut my airbox lid up, but it still needs to be installed to keep the filter in place. There's enough room to cut 2 rectangles of about 1.5" x 3" on the rear of the lid. You need to not cut where the prongs are located on the lid that help to hold the filter in place.
I don't plan on leaving this way though. A pro-flow is next on my list. The way it is now, you have to rely an that terrible stock filter design, which is worse that the one the Banshee has. I can't believe that Yamaha makes the filter this way. It's good that the rest of the quad more than makes up for the crappy filter, but still. C'mon Yamaha. They even make a pro-flow type kit and they can't put it in the stock quad???
