Warrior jetting all messed up.....

k guys i have a 98 warrior, bored .040, k&n filter, wiseco 10.25-1, no air box lid. I recently bought a new exhaust, the dg xcellerator, and a dyno jet kit. I put on the exhaust, put in the reccomended 145 main and the needle on the 4th clip. the exhaust got very hot and wasnt correct so i thought maybe its lean so i put in the 150 main which was the biggest main jet that came with the kit. i also raised the needle clip up to the 5th position still gets hot and ive already turned the first bend in the pipe bronze so i need to figure this out. I called a local dealer and they said that i should be running somewhere around a 170 main with my mods is this correct?? please help........

Sounds like a nice warrior...or 400 ex killer..
anyway try going bigger on the main.
my stealership wants five bucks a jet...but you can always bring back the ones you dont need for a refund.

170 sure could be your lucky number. Sounds right to me with your mods. Be sure you are putting the needles clip down low, so more can can flow to prevent a lean condition. By this i mean, make sure the clip is closer to the skinny part of the needle vs. the top flat part.
Get a few new plugs and go from there. The color your want is a tan/golden color. White means lean, black means rich.
Good luck.

k guys ill try getting some bigger jets this weekend. The Yamaha guy gave me a good deal on the jet kit and exhaust but he thought id be fine with like a 145 main jet. I guess hes wrong since its obviously lean and getting hot. Is there any way that anything else could be affecting the way its running?? the head was just gone through less than 4 months ago so id wouldnt think its that. anywho i guess ill try a 170 or so jet and see what happens, what should i try puttin my needle clip on??

i know i asked this before, but for the air / fuel mixture screw, is it out for more fuel and in for less fuel ??
i just finished putting my back to gether, it took me 4 hours to put the top end on, and shove back in the motor and plastics, i also painted my frame dodge caravan blue, and the a-arms a charcoal / greyish color, looks really awesome, anyways the motor was bored .o20 over and i put in a prox high compression piston, and rings, also readjusted my valves, also i have a k&n air filter, any ideas about jetting ? please help, my mechanic has jetted it, it ran fine, but now the throttle response s*cks, so i need help please, i'm going to ride sand pits on friday, with 7 other guys , please anything would help !!

Bv- Try searching for this, or at least try not to Highjack another thread IIRC moving it in means less fuel.
XJ4ME- My 87 warrior STOCK had a 145 main in it. With out your airbox lid it is really leaning out the egnine. 170 might be a little rich, but you can always dial it in using spark plugs. To start off, I would position the needle in position #3, or the middle. If you get any popping at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle you will need to drop the clip down one. If you wish you could start playing with piolt jets. I have never needed to. Sometimes jetting takes for ever. Every machine is diffrient, and we all live at diffrient elevations. BTW- sounds like you have a nice XJ.

I thought a 145 sounded lean but the mechanic thought for some reason it should be close so i will have to try and find some bigger main jets and then see what happens. BTW Blaster96 you can see the jeep at http://www.sounddomain.com/memberpage/503001
