Howdy....you need to get your wolverines checked....out of the crate the new ones will do 63MPH...my 95 will do 65MPH but it is not stock...how I know how fast it will go is because I drove beside a friend of mine in his car...he was doing 60MPH and we were side by side...as for the Kodiak beating a wolverine in a drag race yes it's possible if it's being pulled by a grizzley....I raced a 2001 Kodiak Ultra this weekend and it wasn't even close...the guy with the kodiak wants a wolverine now...

I Know I can do a true 55mph and while wide open down a long straight dirt road a Wolverine passed me at a good jog pace. You people with 50 mph Wolverines should bring them in to get cheaked out.

Howdy....Nice to see someone that knows the truth...I raced my buddies on there quads... 500 Sportsman and a 500 Scrambler...they both lost in a flat out race...one thing we found out on the Sportsman is the air intake snorkle is slightly pinched off between the seat and tank...fix that and you will see an increase in speed right away...

So what exactly have you modified on your Wolverine to make it do 65? You are trying to tell me that a stock Wolverine will do 63 out of the crate when a stock 400EX will only do around 65. So I guess your Wolverine will run with a 400EX. You need to wake up because unless you have had your Wolverine pumped up to a 500 it just ain't going to happen. Don't get me wrong I like the quad that is why I have two of them but for a sportutility quad the Kodiak is just a lot better at everything. The next time you have the chance to race a Kodiak do a hill race, start at the base of the hill from a dead stop and you will see that the Kodiak will kill the Wolverine because it is way too weak on the bottom end. Just the facts!

Well then I guess Dirt Wheels lies in there articles also..they claim a wolverine out of the box will do 63MPH...as for racing up a hill, you have me there...we all know what a belt drive is capable of..but I didn't know a Kodiak was considered a sport/utility...it was my understanding that the wolverine was the only sport/utility that yamaha made...stock tires on a wolverine are 23 inches tall...you owning two would know that but when you have 25 inch tall tires on the speed increases...I guess I'll have to get a cop to tag me with his radar gun to know for sure...will get back to you with that bit of info...

Well since I have every issue of DirtWheels for the past 6 years I would like to know which issue said a Wolverine will go 63 is because I don't recall ever seeing that. Polaris' Scrambler only goes a little above 60 and every magazine will tell you that the Scrambler is way faster than a Wolverine. I have rode many Wolverines and there is not a one that would break 55mph and that is tops going down hill. My buddie has a Wolverine and he e-mailed Mike Penland, who is a GNCC champion many times over and rode a modded Wolverine for a couple of years. My buddie asked him what would it take to get a Wolverine to do 65mph for under $1000 and his reply was to buy a truck and put the Wolverine in the back and take it down the interstate at 65mph, so I am sure Mike Penland is far more experienced with quads than the two of us and even he admits that it would take a boat load of money to get a Wolverine to 65mph. If you have the chance to ride a 400EX, which does 65, you will be able to tell a big difference between a Wolverine and 400EX because the Wolverine is no where close to the EX's speed. As for the Sportutility remark I am not for sure which issue of DirtWheels but I can look when I get home this evening which said the 2000 Kodiak if sportier than the Wolverine so yeah I would have to say the Kodiak belongs in the Sportutility catergory.

I have a 2000 Wolv. and have raced a buddy up North on a gravel air-strip and reached speeds of about 62 MPH on my Wolv. It was stock.
Buddy had a 99 Sportman...

I say they do closer to 60mph.I can smoke my friends 2000 Kodiak from start to finish in a race.My I can pass the Kodiak at top speed about at the same pace as the Wolverine can pass me,which makes the two Yamahas not even close to each other.
