My Dad is looking to buy a new atv and I think he is leaning towards the Kodiak. Niether of us have ridden one before. I have a Wolverine so I would like some comparisons to it. Rate each atv in these areas:
speed
handling
low-end power
muddin'
trail riding
comfort

Also, does the Kodiak have a HI/LO range? Thanks.

I have rode both quads and out of the catergories you listed the only one where the Kodiak is better is low-end power but everywhere else the Wolverine is a better machine!

The Kodiak has Hi/low and sel 4wd/2wd.
I would rate them as so
speed - Wolverine
handling - Wolverine (but the Kodiak is right there with it)
low-end power - Kodiak
muddin' - Kodiak
trail riding - Both
comfort - Kodiak

Your going to have to ride both and get what you like, cus its all personal pref, because both are great machines.

Any other oppinions?

Is the Wolverine right behind kodiak in terms of muddin' issue or is there no comparison between the two. Also, which is quieter?

Howdy...the first thing that you need to decide on is what type of riding you do the most of I.E. work or play....the wolverine is rated at 20% work 80% play...don't get me wrong the wolverine is capable of working also but lacks the tow rating that the kodiak does...SPEED...as for the speed of both of these quads...the top speed of the kodiak is 53mph and the wolverine is 63mph...HANDLING...the handling of both quads is very comparable until the speed gets higher....the kodiak has a softer suspension making it alittle on the unperdictable side when your driving at higher speed....the wolverine on the other hand is very nimble at all speeds and handles very well at high speeds...I've rode both machines and find the kodiak to be alittle scary at high speeds after coming off a whoop because the suspension compresses then uncoils making the kodiak bounce sideways...LOW-END POWER..as for low end power there is no comparsion...the kodiak wins hands down because of it's low range...MUDDIN...now for muddin...with stock tires the kodiak still wins because of the low range...TRAIL RIDING.....one thing we all seem to forget is when we buy our first quad our riding skills aren't that good, but once we've rode for hours through all types of terrain we improve greatly and start pushing our quads to the limits...speeds at which we ride also increase...so from what I have found is that for me the wolverine is the best choice for trail riding because of it's sport suspension and it can also keep up with my skills as they increase...imangine taking a farm tractor down a rough trail at 40mph...thats what a kodiak feels like.... a kodiak is a work horse and is designed just for that...it's not made to going flying down trails at high speeds...COMFORT.....kodiak has much plusher ride due to the softer springs...the wolverine has a good ride but the springs are stonger and once you get the shocks dialed in to your weigh and load your carrying the ride is very good...all the controls on both quads are easy to operate and can be done without looking to find them...first you need to decide on the type of riding your planning on doing and pick the quad that will grow as your riding skills improve...I hope I was of some help in making this big decision...

I own two Wolverines and I can tell you that there is no way they will get near 65mph maybe 50mph. My dad owns a 2000 Kodiak and it is a far superior quad than my Wolverines. The Kodiak will beat a Woverine in a drag race easily. It also handles better out on the trails no matter the speed you are going. Just face it the Kodiak is just more up to date than the Wolverine. I know what my next 4X4 will be.
