The thing to think about when a cam specs that you need heavy duty springs is "Why".
Typically, an aftermarket cam means two things:
1 - Higher Lift (opens the valve a bit farther)
2 - Longer Duration (how long the valve cycle actually takes to start opening to the time it is fully closed)
Both of these mean that your engine will be drawing in more air/fuel which mean a bit more power.
A cam with a longer duration means that there is less time for the valve to close (exhaust) before the piston can actually come in contact with it (a lingering valve). The heavy duty spring makes sure the valve gets closed as quickly as possible.
A cam with a higer lift actually ends up with the same result. If the valve is opened further, you'll either need more time or a stiffer spring to make sure it gets closed before the piston makes contact.
Not exactly the answers you were looking for, but thinking along those lines, if you are looking to compliment a 10.5:1 85mm piston, you should end up realizing that a cam that uses the stock springs won't be as "complimentary".
Just some food for thought.

95 wolv hows that stroker? i hear what your saying as far as the cam being mild, its a little quick to close. i have the specs on all the cams and there all .390 lift but the duration and centers are different.its hard for me to compare them because each cam chart has a different duration @??? one cams duration is 245 @.040 and another is 250@1mm the other is 244 @.050. im sure they all claim to be the best, and they are probably all good for different ride styles, but i just want to make sure i end up with the one that helps get the front wheels all the ground!!

hey, I got an 01 wolverine with a Megamax and a k&n filter. I was wondering what engine mods i could put on it to make it go faster and have more power. I dont want to do any big jobs like changing the pistons or anything complicated like that. What should i do to get more power and speed?
