Default Alba header pipe glowing red!

Hey guys just wanted to help lay this topic to rest.... I live twenty minutes from Alba's shop in Poway. I went in there yesterday to buy a quiet core for my Pipe which buy the way real lowers the noise of the pipeto an acceptable level. It does lower the performance too but its still much quicker than stock. Anyway I asked them about the header Pipe glowing red hot and they said it is Totally Normal. So don't worry if your ALBA pipe is glowing red hot at night.

Default Alba header pipe glowing red!

I have been working on this quad, I found the problem.....it had a little slit in the carb boot that goes to the head. It was running lean. He went ahead a bought a new boot. We put it back together and the header never glows.....at all. I hate to say this Alba makes a good pipe but they don't know what they are talking about. They kept telling me.....thats what that header does. The Alba Pipe woke the Raptor up. It's alittle loud for me....but at least it's running great.

RaptorRider619....check and make sure you don't have a air leak. What I did was sprayed some carb cleaner around the carbs, and found it.

God, do a search, it's normal. This info is pasted all over this forum.

YAMAHA'S HAVE GLOWING RED HEADPIPES, EVEN IN STOCK TRIM (yes with that flat black pipe)! DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT!

You jetting could be lean but even if it wernt the headpipe WILL STILL GlOW, just not as red. The red shows up more on aftermarket pipes because of the thinner stinless steal they are made from.

Start it up at night in the dark and let it idle for 10 min er so...it'll glow...always does. Glad to see you found the reason for the lean jetting though.

Hey RAJ thats weird that your pipe doesnt glow at all when they told me it would. Hmmm...... Do you think maybe your running on the rich side? would that make it run a little cooler? Also about that carb boot I had a problem with mine when I tried to do the jetting myself I didnt seat the boot correctly where it mounts to the engine intake and I had an air leak...caused a fire in my carburator and my plastic carb slides melted! Had to take it into ALB and have them look the bike over and do it correctly. I felt dumb but at least I wont make that mistake again. Too bad I had to learn the hard way! Those Carb slides are 43 dollars a piece!
