Default What piston for 686?

what piston is everyone using ,I heard of problems with the J&E but they have a good rep in auto industry pro & cons does price on them change reliability, like Weisco are cheaper and do you really need to change rod if I just go with 11-1 and a stage 1 cam?

Ide get the JE, works good with the Hotcam stage 1. You done need a new rod, if you went over 11:1 then i would consider it. Good luck

Craycraft uses Ross
Sparks uses JE
Kenz I believe uses CP
These three are the top names in the Raptor communtiy. Call anyone one of them.

DONT GET JE!! They crack OFTEN!

If you want reliability go with 11:1 Wiseco, if you want performance (with no cracking) go Ross 12:1.

Craycraft sells Ross and it is actually a 10.75:1....It runs great on low octane fuel and is more reliable in the long run. Also if ridden correctly will keep up with a 12 to 1 Raptor on race gas...

Why does everyone thing JE pistons crack alot? when Venom Racing Upgrades Vipers to over 700hp, they put in 11:1 JE pistons!!! it says it right in Motor Trend!!!

Ask around...alot of builders still like the JE but some builders refuse to use them.My builder is one who refuses to use them.Ask him and he'll tell ya why....I'm not here to slam JE...I just think Ross or CP are a more reliable piston than a JE....JMO

ive heard all the horror stories too! my build is like 2+ years old and i have a 12.5:1 je in my raptor and shes doing great! i must of got a good one. Now if i could find a good clutch and head gasket i would be alright! Any suggestions on a clutch and head gasket?

Its not a problem with JE as a whole, its a problem with the design and wrist pin of the raptor piston. JE is great, but if you own a raptor you should avoid them like the 01 tranny.

I too will vouch for wiseco. If you are running 11:1 100mm to 102mm I really dont see a better choice. Ross and CP are great but do not have any significant power advantages if any. With the 10.75:1 you may even be losing power, I havent tested them so I cant be sure on this application. The reliability on all is excellent and wiseco is about half the price.
