I heard the ground clearance is something like 5 inches.. is this true? If so, is it good or bad?

its 9 or 10 under the motor and 4.9 under the rear skid plate for the axle.

It's fine, don't be worried. I had one in my younger days, and I rode it everywhere, i mean everywhere. rocky roads, woods, big sticks logs,..nothin was every really a problem. It's not like you're going to damage anything but riding in the woods casually. Hell, i even ran with the skid plate off for the longest time and nothing ever changed except a lil more grit got in my brake pads.
