Default hooking into the electrical system

was wondering where the best place to hook up a set of handle bar warmers would be. I dont want to run them directaly off the battery. was wondering where some of you guys have hooked up aftermarket lights and whatnot. they are of a fairly simple design, two elements both with two wires one a ground the other hookes to a toggle. then the toggle needs power. So basically i was wondering where the best place to get power would be thanks and later

If it is a 4X4, check to see if the cigarette plug has power when the switch is off. Most likely it does not. This is a good place to tap into the positive wire.

On my 400ex, I tapped into it right after the key switch.

I stopped dealing with the whole high/low setup and mounting the resistor to the frame with silicon. It is easier to get a cheap on/off switch from the auto part store and just wire it up for the full 3 amp setting. You either need heat or you don't. I also recommend an inline fuse holder. You can use a 5 amp fuse. If you warmers ever short, you won't blow the 15 amp starter fuse near the battery.

Its a raptor so the ciggarette lighter is a no go, but i wasn't sure if i should hook in after the ignition, or if there was an empty fuse or somewhere special to run accsesories. thanks for the reply

Sorry, I didn't pay attention to your signature line (or I forgot I was in the Yamaha forum). I hooked into the Raptor right after the ignition switch too.

If you aren't familiar with it, you can get a cheap probe in the electrical section of any auto part store. Ground one end and use the point on the other end to probe the wire to see where the power is coming through. If you have a Raptor manual, it lays out the electrical system in the back and you can figure out which wire has power that way too.

You can also tap into the nuetral light. If you hook it up, before the bulb, then that should have 12 volts whenever the key is on, and using the handwarmer wont make the bulb come on. If you hook it up, after the bulb, it will light when you use the handwarmer. Put a 5 amp in line fuse, on the hardwarmer hot wire.

this may sound a little dumb, but through experimenting with LEDs for underbodies on my blaster (laugh it up) i wired the lights into my low oil level indicator through a lighted switch i bought from wal-mart... dont need the oil level indicator since i use mixed gas<<<
since ur talking about a raptor though, im not positive of where you can splice it in. try the ignition switch...???
