I believe the 400ex will be a better race quad than a raptor because they weigh less and handle better. A raptor is gonna take more strenght to throw around, and they'le break faster since they have more aluminum on them than any other quad produced. A 440ex w/ racing piston and cam will beat a raptor. A raptor with a lot of mods would be great for woods racing and Dunes, not MX.
Good Luck Raptor Owners!

Now, there wouldn't be any reason for you to biased would there SpeedDemn440?
A 440 goes into Open Class doesn't it? If the rules end up allowing the Raptor to race, we'll see if you are correct.

I think it is just a tad early to decide the outcome of the race just yet. While the Raptor is 16 pounds heavier than the 400EX stock, I think that it will outperform the 400EX out of the box, with a compotent rider. My main reasoning for this is the suspension. It is supposed to be quite a bit more adjustable than the 400ex. I've seen 400EX's on the track in my area, and the stockers all jump fine for woods runs, but if you seriously compete, the first thing most of the local riders did was nix thier suspension. Claiming that it is too harsh on the doubles and in the whoops.

Just my opinion, but we'll see when the two are alive, in full swing......AFTER the Race Shops "upgrade" the Raptor, as the 400EX has been so well recieved. (Both good bikes by my standards.....heck, I'd keep my 400EX if someone would magically add reverse to it.)

I know you just didnt open your mouth and go there, does honda have a stock 440EX we dont know about? You are trying to pass comparison on a race mod engine versus my stock engine. Oh wow! thats bright, Since it is the Open class you like, try and picture this scenario. A raptor with 700cc bore, 11:1 compresssion, race cam, flow porting, and a Curtis Sparks pipe, with two mikuni 39mm flatslides, and a Pro flo air filter kit , K&N, outerwear and no airbox lid. Ok what where you comparing again?

the raptor is going to be fun to ride against. I think its great that the big Japanese companies are finally competing in our market! i can't wait till my buddy gets his new raptor. its gonna be fun racing him. i own a 440EX and am thrilled there is another high performance quad that will keep up. I've raced banshees with mods and bombardiers, only the highly modified banshees were competition.

the raptor has 220 more cc's than my quad and a much more highly advanced engine. what do you want me to compare? my kids electric jeep to your raptor? I also compared my bike to banshees, neither of them stock and a bombardier with 210 more cc's. Just a little edgy are we?

The 440EX and Raptor are both awsome machines, but why all the talk about who beats who on a MX track. On a MX track all the 250R based quads are still out front. Even the laegers yzf426 quads fall behind the 250R's. Until either can beat the R your still fightning for 2nd place. I've had a 400EX, a 300EX, and have a 250R. My favorite was the 300EX. Small, desently fast, reverse, and handled great. All boils down to what you like. Ride on!

Well put,440EX. On a MX track the Raptor won't be close, its like putting a DS on a MX track.
