The DS was inching away from me, but I never hit the rev limiter and the DS rider was 37 pounds lighter.

 

My dealer doesn't have the microfiche for parts yet, so I assume there is no assembly manual available either. The factory grips are very nice. I want another set of those for my Banshee.

 

I wish the DS rev-limiter wasnt so low at
"7700 rpm" which is what they claim it to be...I have seen a few guys who have the Woods tach on there DS that it kicks in more at like "7200 rpm". Mine did 78 mph in the 1/4 and was all over the rev-limiter just after the 1/8 mile mark bone stock.

 

Hang on a minute Chris! Carefully read what's already been said. It does run faster in 5th than 4th. 68.6mph compared to 74.3mph on flat ground.

It seems that it has an rpm limiter that is dependent upon what gear you are in. All it would need is a limiter with an ignition signal (for the rpm input) and a current gear signal for this to work. That would be very simple for Yamaha to have done.

I'll soon post the max speed for each gear, the corresponding rpm, and even the top rpm of 4th and 5th gear with the wheels off the ground. For the last one I'll of course have to hook up a tach but that should be easy enough.

With that info we will have the rest of the story!

 

the smaller sprocket will have a lower top speed (i think). Because i doubt they would have a sensor on the axel/final drive but they would put it in the gearbox (before the sprocket you would be changeing).

 

Hold on a sec, on the 400ex the carb slide wasnt opening up completely therefore full throttle was never acheived. Do you think that the carb slides need to be adjusted so they are letting in all the fuel through the carbs?

 

I agree. It will be slower with the smaller sprocket unless we can raise the rev limiter in the high gears assuming that there is one.

What about the post stating there is a throttle limiting screw on the thumb throttle? If that is the case, this may be why you haven't seen the limiter in any gear. The carb slide thing might also be it. I remember that my 400EX was noticably faster after my prescribed Valve adjustment, but I think that the dealer may have corrected the false full throttle thing too.

Finally, one piece of good news on getting a Raptor so late, You pro's will have all the bugs worked out of them before I even get to start mine!

Okay, if it was a sensor picking up readings off of the transmission gears and cutting spark, wouldn't it be reasonable that you could hit peak speed, disengage the clutch, and it still wouldn't rev any higher?

Also, is there any chance that you were riding into the wind going downhill or vice versa?

 

Like the 400ex the throttle cable wasnt completely tightened maybe yamaha has done the same thing.Hmmmmm?
