Default wolverine gear oil problem

why is gear oil bubbling up from the rear axle all the way up the breather tube to where it ends near the seat gas tank? started to smolder as it ran onto the exhuast pipe.

Maybe have too much oil in it. Is it coming out of the gear box vent tube???

Mine does the same thing. I read somewhere, that if you fill the oil all the way to the top of the fill hole threads like the manual suggests, it will do that.

I even drained mine to check the oil and it was not milky from any water contamination.

I'm not exactly sure how it makes it all the way up that vent tube...expansion from the heat, I guess. Maybe someone will say differently, but I wouldn't worry about it. Mine eventually quits, when the oil level settles in.

The oil dripping on the exaust is annoying.

I'm going to try just bringing my gear oil to the bottom of the filler hole next time.

I bet you could wedge a piece of foam up at the tank, where the breather hose comes up through, to absorb any oil that spews out.

I'd try it myself, but mine is in pieces for awhile. I have my motor torn down, getting ready to send the piece parts to FST, for the 446 treatment.

Both SpDdEmOn and 95Wolverine promise me, I won't be disappointed.

I've had the same problem on all three wolverines I've had. I fixed it by splicing a T into the vent tubes and running one of the lines down to the bottom of the frame. Now the excess gear oil drains down to the ground, but it won't suck up any water as any vacumm draws from the normal vent location. If it continues to dump oil under the tank you'll lose the little piece of foam that blocks water from your air intake, plus it's just an ugly mess.

Wolverine68, you mentioned tubes (as in plural)?

Did you do the "T" trick to more than just the vent tube coming up from the rear gear box?

How far up the tube did you insert the "T"?

I did the one from the front diff as well. I "T" them and tied them to the frame behind the pipe right above the rear brake pedal. It's really a pretty simple job and keeps the airbox area much cleaner.

Thanks for the tip.

I'm going to go ahead and do that to mine when I put it back together.

I noticed the same thing on my Wolverine, especially on cold days. Boy does that stuff stink!
