Default Blaster Sprockets

I'm trying to change my bro-in-laws sprockets on his blaster. The guide thats on the swingarm is in the way since the rear sprocket is so much bigger and the little sprocket/brake guard won't fit with the bigger sprocket on. So.....should I just cut the chain guide off and the sprocket guard or what? Thanks in advance for the help. I can't remember how many teeth are on the new rear sprocket, but that thing looks huge!!! And he dropped 2 teeth on the front sprocket.

Dropping two teeth in the front is going to suck. I went from a 13 (stock) to a 12 and the first 2 gears were usless plus you loose about 7mph on your top speed. By adding that many teeth on the rear also he will be lucky to hit 40mph and he will find himself in 5th and 6th gear all the time.

I know thats what I thought too, but thats what he wanted. So, what do you suggest for a good sprocket combo for the Blaster?

Stock, leave it alone. 13 40 is the best combination you can pull out of the stock motor. But once you start adding mods you can get the engine to pull a taller gear. 14-41 is a perfect set-up on a modded motor. You get good top speed and still have lots of low end power.

It probably won't be a problem with that gearing if your brother in law has 26 inch rear tires just kiddin..just out of curiosity do u know what size tire's he's runnin in the rear? I think the stock tire is a 21. just the small drop to a 20 inch tire will be a big difference. I prefer a 14/40 gearing with 20 inch tires. But we have alot of open trail's where u can open them up a little.

He has stock tires. I told him he should get some new tires before he does anything. Those stock tires suck a$$.

20's are a good size in the rear for a blaster. Alot of people drop to 18 for MX, but it dosn't give enough ground clearence for just cruzin around on the trails.

yeah did u see the pic's that banshee posted at hollywood..the 18's are really nice but makes it look like golf cart tire's kinda..there is no way my sprocket axle carrier would survive with 18's

Mine either. I have a set of 18" tamers on rims that I use when i hit the track, but other then that i can't really use them where I ride.
