Default Bruin 350 brake/reverse

I have a friend that has a 2004 Bruin 350. He says that you have to hold the foot brake in order to put the quad in reverse. It won't go in reverse if you hold the hand brake. He says this is normal and it even says so in the owner's manual. Is this true, and if it is, is there a way to bypass this? This couldn't be too good if in certain sticky situations. Thanks

Yep. You have to have one of the rear brakes activated before it will shift.
Since it's electric, I'm sure it can be bypassed.

I'm missing the point and had a 2004 Bruin but what is the point of deactivating if you can't shift it in reverse.

What they mean is altering it so it will go into reverse without needing to put the footbrake on. Many bikes have some sort of lock out device to stop you crunching through into reverse while the bike is still moving forwards. Yam chose the footbrake, Honda the left handbrake. Incidentally, on most older Hondas and Yams the lock out was mechanical, via a cable.
