Wolverine owners HELP!!!carb trouble
I have a 1997 Wolverine. The problem I am having is that I am not able to get the Slide in the CV Mikuni carb to lift fully with full throttle. I have had the carb out and fully cleaned. All rubber boots, slides , springs and jets are fine.
Im not getting as good response as my friends Wolverine.
I put a new plug in. 145 main jet, new air cleaner.
Compression is 150. I had the valves adjusted.
I took the air box off, warmed it up and gave it full throttle, the slide goes up about half way and thats it.
What should I do ???

I am not positive of this (as my carb is the same as on the warrior) but I believe that with a CV style carb (as yours is) that you need the pressure differential created by the flow resistance of the airbox and air filter in order for the slide to function properly. Here is where the other Wolverine riders chime in.
Is your airbox lid modified? Have you done a plug chop to determine if the mainjet you installed is the right one for your machine or did you just jet the same as your friends? Another thing to consider is do you have a backfire upon deceleration? If so, this means you are a little lean on the pilot circuit which causes problems elsewhere as well.
More info and we'll likely be able to help you out a bit more.

do a quick search for wolverine and/or carb in yamaha forums........this question has been answered many times but to sum it up, your slide is vacume operated, first-open up the exhaust ,got to get lots of air out to get lots of air in...second-drill out the vacume hole in the bottom of your slide so it will open all the way and quicker.....third -a high flow filter, modify air box lid 2"/3" hole do the lid its easier to replace than the air box
