Test for a charge from your bike. 1st charge the battery. Then install it. Measure the battery voltage now. Start the bike and check the voltage on the battery with the bike running. The voltage should jump up over 14 volts. Try revving the engine etc. while doing so. Lights on etc. If the battery voltage doesn not increase while the bike is running the bike is not charging. Now a basic check of the battery..... test the battery voltage while it is imply sitting there out of the bike or disconnected. Check it again after several minutes. See if the voltage might be creeping down slowly over time. A tenth of a volt here another 10th there. IF so it could definitely be bad. Sulfer could be shorting the cells. Now to see if the bike has a short and is draining the battery do this quick test. Install the battery. Disconnect one battery lead. (negative is safer from accidental arcing etc.). Put a test light across the broken connection. I.E. put the probe on the battery terminal and put the lights alligator clamp on the battery cable. If the light glows there is a drain in the bike. Be sure everything is shut off with the bike. If you have a power outlet on the bike. (plug in for a spotlight etc.) be sure no debris especially metal (dimes are perfect for this) have fallen into the outlet. Unplug wires, fuses etc. until the light goes out. Then you have found the culprit circuit. Pulg back in to relight the test light and continue searching that circuit. If you are not sure about the battery terminals condition being good enough, put a volt meter right across the connection of the terminal and the cable attaching to that terminal with the battery installed and connected. If there is a break in the connection from corrosion etc. you will get a voltage reading with your meter set on its lowest DC scale. 2 tenths of a volt is enough to throw off the charging circuit preventing it from charging!

I had the exact same thing happen to me. It went dead and I figured I would just have it recharged when I brought it in for the 20 hour service. They told me the same thing (after I read it on the Doug Gust site) so now I ride with the lights on. It seems to work. No issues yet - although during the blizzard I had the RPMs up there

yfz only charge at high rpm (its a race bike ppl!!!)
when the headlights r on it automaticly charges the battery knowing that the the lights will drain it
so keep ur lights on n get a cbr600batt if urs died
