Default adding a 12 volt power outlet

Hello all, I have a yamaha 350 bruin 2wd 2004 mod. that i wanted to add a power outlet to. I was wondering if i connect straight to the battery, or do i have to hook up somewhere else? DO i need a wiring diagram? any help would be great! thanks in advance B.B. in N.C.

Sure no problem but you will need the outdoor type (like the kind you buy for a pick up truck bed) and a inline 15 amp fuse holder and fuse. BRB though with how to i need to take a ****.

Alright the lizard is drained and I am back. At Wal-Mart (at least here in the auto section) they sell outdoor 12 Volt outlets that have a waterproof spring loaded top. They cost about 11 bucks, come with a screw down mount method, and are PERFECT for installing on a quad. I don't remember off the top of my head what gauge the wire is but you will need the following items that can be purchased at your local Radio Shack:

1. A mini blade fuse holder (the small kind you find in some cars) (15A)
2. Mini blade fuses (15A the small kind you find in some cars)
3. Two 12 AWG Ring terminals - crimpable.
4. A waterproof 12V outlet with 12 AWG wire & some electric tape.
5. Maybe a small roll of 12 AWG wire if the kind that comes with the outlet isnt long enough.

Mini Blade fuse holder: Shown here
15A Mini Blade fuses: Shown here
Ring Terminals: Shown here

Pretty much you put the fuse holder inline on the positive wire from the outlet with the + terminal on the battery and attach a ring terminal to the end and screw it down to your battery. You then just attach another ring terminal to your 12V outlet's negative wire and screw that down with the battery as well. To mount this type of outlet you drill a hole in the plastic, screw it down, and screw a bolt on (or just leave it under the seat).

I hate to bring up old topics, but will this drain the battery significantly? I am also looking at hooking up this setup on my ATV.

Not unless you use something that draws a whole lot. I try to run my machine when using mine.

I added one to the Wolvy as well. I bought the Yamaha accy one and there was already a hot pigtail right up front behind the side panel, just to the right of the steering shaft. It was real easy to hook up.

Ok, I wanted to add my Garmin 60CSX, it only uses 2 AA batteries, and when you shut the machine off it can just run off the batteries.
