Its better to tap into the side case bcause your getting the cool oil flowing to the top end of the engine, that galley is what supplies oil to the valves, cam, etc. And its cheaper to do it like that, so i really don't see any benefits of buying the big bear stuff when you can have superior cooling with less parts and some work.

Well I don’t like the idea of drilling into a part worth as much as the Big bear parts would cost me. The other reason I went with the big bear bolt on is because I think it looks better X_X! The third reason I went this way is yes ok it does deliver oil to the top end more directly but its circulated oil... If you lower the temperature of the overall oil (50*F cooler) then it works just as well. Yamaha chose this way to cool the oil and it’s the more expensive way so there must have been a pretty good reason for it. Another benefit is that the process is entirely reversible and can be brought back to the before state w.o restoring any parts. Hell if the cooler works for the Big Bear and other quads I think it works just fine as a direct bolt on bro.

yeah you have a point but the guy from FST, micky dunlop said the oil galley way is better since the heat is in the top end, so i rather have colder oil hitting the spot where it needs it more then the crankcase. Im not planning on selling my quad anytime soon so im going to tap the case, use nice AN fittings and braided line so it looks good, and call it a day.

Ya the thing is that once the overall oil has been cooled down it wont matter but either way is fine and I was just more comfy with doing it the way Yamaha intended it (the motor at least) to be cooled.

I'm perfectly fine with the cap. The dam cooler will make your ***** sweat when riding and when your done it will burn your hand. In the meantime the clutch and engine in general feel much cooler. I'd rather keep the clutch cool, a thinner full synthetic oil will protect the head plenty enough. 10-40 synthetic works great for high rpm riding from a quicker flow. The original big bear cooler was intended to cool the clutch especially for uphills and when you really get the engine working. With a six speed trans and another gear to work with the clutch will be used frequently during sport riding.
