I've landed some 70 footers on my YFZ without cracking anything. The only problem with the YFZ is that you always have to pick the line cause you're in front.
And if that thumb throttle's too much for you to handle, you might want to look into something less strenuous like taking up knitting.

I just experienced the decompression plug failure, and I got pretty pissed off. But my is a 2004, I have also heard problems about the YFZ battery, if you are a trail rider, you will have problems with it because you aren't using high RPM's, but if you race it hard, you wont have problems with it or something like that. It's a nice machine, it has hard acceleration and nice suspension.

OMG I can't believe I forgot about the battery problem, ya...important. Also I believe this might of been fixed in the 05 model because I haven't heard of it occuring yet. I wish Yamaha would just say flat out what they fixed instead of pretending like it never happened and applying a secret fix.

thanks but i cant decide between the z-400 or the yfz, i plan on making my own mx track but it wont be too wild, i like sliding wheelieng, i have some experienc working on quads. couldnt you make the z-400 about as good as the stock yfz with the money you save by buying the z? oh yeah i ride like 25 square miles of sand. speed and acceleration are not that big of a deal to me its mostly about jumping and controling the quad in the air. im not sure about what quad to get. if you can help me i would appreate it greatly

The stock suspension on the Z400 will fall way short of the YFZ's,especially when you hit obstacles at speed. The power difference is bit lop-sided in the YFZ's favor. The Z400 does do better in the lower rpm range than the YFZ.The Z400 can be modded quite easily and has the potential to be as good or better than the YFZ(it just takes money).

Just remember that with engine mods comes less relaibility, I don't know how those Z's do after extensive engine mods but if it's like anyother quad I've experienced reliability falls short. In the long run the stock YFZ would be a better choice then a modded Z IMO. Also, the YFZ will always be faster, so why not?!
