I was curious about the top speed of my Raptor and decided to conduct a speed run. I went on a blacktop service road. With the help of a friend of mine with a Ford Mustang GT. Keep in mind I'm not one for being a speed demon, but I just wanted to know what it was capable of. We lined up and I jumped ahead of him big time... well of course he caught up with me and I look over at him to get the O.K. for a good reading. Well being open-minded I felt that the Raptor was pretty fast, so as we came to a stop I ask him; well, what are we looking at? He told me 80mph....
I wasn't expecting that high of a number, but as far as I'm concerned the smile that I have on my face will be with me for now and forever!!!! Totally Stock!

That's a fact jack...!!!
Turn it up...!!!!

That's fast enough for me. I must warn you though. Be prepared to read posts doubting the actual speed and "wondering" if the speed odemeter of the car is correct and so on and so on.

Besides of many of us can run at full throttle and high gear for any length of time. I know I can't. Well, maybe the folks in Kansas can!

I took my GPS with me today and recorded a top speed of 85.3 without really pushing it hard.

Reality check fellas!!!!!
You CAN NOT get an accurate speed reading from going side by side with a car. The ONLY real way to be 100% accurate is to take it to a 1/4 drag strip and see what it goes. I am still waiting for my buddy to get his broke in so we can take it to the strip and hold it the 1320. And as for that 85 mph...dont make me laugh! Dream on! LOL!

P.S. Why are the 75mph DS spanking the Raptors on every post? hmmmm

Juvenile, how do you compare the Raptor to the DS. What do you like better about each one? I still haven't seen a Raptor in person yet so I can't compare how it fits me compared to the DS. I know you've ridden both, so I appreciate the info. LATER

The GPS run was done on a dirt road where there was about 5 miles between one trail heah to the next trail head.
Bombadier or more like a bomb, sense the top end of the motor will not hold together for more than 5 min. at a time. Every one of them you talk to have had a cracked head or cracked cylinder....

In my opinion, both are excellent machines. I was sold on the Raptor for routine maintenance. I.E. spin of oil filter, spark plug, draining engine oil, ect. Another thing was the reverse gear...very,very, fast...I kept reading that the Raptor's size was more on the side of a 400ex, but its much larger in my opinion. I picked it up last Wed. about 12 noon at Midsouth and there were about 5-8 guys stopping by just to take a look at it and everyone of them were very impressed. Yamaha has..in my opinion created the utilmate ATV that combines all of the great qualities of high-performance. When you get a chance to ride one, you will know exactly what I mean.

BansheeDill take your 1987 or whatever year banshee...as if it makes a differance, like they have changed it since then, besides adding a few nasty colors that you have a million dollars in and beat up on the STOCK DS's. I love the resale value on those bad boys too...about 10 on every page of any cycle trader you can pick up, and all under $3500 in any year, cant give them away. Gotta love that.
