Blaster Reving up starting up
#1
03 Sometimes during the winter i ride around and it seems to me that it only happens during cold weather when i need to use the choke. Ill use the choke to start the blaster and it will start but it will start reving up really loud as soon as it gets started. It dosent happen all the time only sometimes i always turn the choke off before riding i dont know what it could be why does it rev up so loud sometimes starting up?

The extra gas from the choke will allow it to rev up past normal idle speed because there is more gas going into the combustion chamber. Its normal for it do to that. You shouldn't however let it idle up and stay there, once you get it running shut the choke off and use the throttle a bit to get it warmed up.

recently my raptor, in 10 degree weather, would go but when i let it sit and idle it would die. so i turned up the idle to fix this, it helped out the idle when it was cold or just sitting, but when i rode and let off the gas it keep reving up for a few seconds and then settled down. i took my plug out and saw that my pluh was caked with crap, cleaned it off, turned my idle back down and it ran like a charm.
your choke makes your bike rev a lil higher because its restriting the air and giving it just gas. the winter is a fun month to screw around with, your jetting gets thrown off and everything. if its reving up when ur riding after u let off the gas, turn your idle down a little bit buy turning the idle screw out just a little.
incase your not sure where it is, just take off the seat, in the front of the air box lift that little rubber flap and there it is on the blaster.
anymore questions just ask.. --------Rider1169

Shavo?-the choke doesnt acually pump more gas to the engine, it only restricts are flow?

It dosn't pump. Are you familiar with how they work?
Try getting a pop bottle and filling it with water. Then take a air gun and shoot air across the top..see what happens? Because the air is moving fast enough it pulls the water right out of the bottle, but it will only work for a second until the water level drops too low, which is why we have floats in the carb. Anyway its the same for the choke. If you look into your carb (looking in the airbox side) you'll see two openings, one where the air for the pilot circit goes in, and one for the choke that is only open when the choke is on. Because at idle the slide is almost closed the air goes down into this opening and then comes back out on the other side of the slide. The choke works the same way, It opens which allows air in which picks up more gas as it flows by.

yea i got that stuff, in the carb barrel the butterfly flap closes when the choke is used to shut off most air flow, so the engine is just getting gas. i was just seeing how yours works because u said yours acually puts more gas into the carb along with the regualar amount

go to www.howstuffworks.com and look up how the carb choke works.... anythign u got a ? about that web sight could explain to u.
