Default How much of power difference will i feel? (02 Raptor)

My current mods are Full Sparks x6, K&N and I am adding a 101mm 11:1 Wiseco high comp. piston, hotcam stage 2 cam, and kibblewhite valve springs!

Is there going to be a big seat of the pants difference in my bike?

Also my jetting is currently 160/165, 25 pilots, 3 turns out on ea air/fuel, 3rd groove on needle..using the gytr kit..elevation?? 800-1600..air box lid on, snorkle removed, 2- 2 1/2" holes drilled in lid, pro flow w K&N.

What would be a good starting point

You will probably feel the same difference like when you put on the exhaust

On my 01 with the cam alone I noticed a big difference. With the combo of the piston and cam you should really notice a difference.

I strongly disagree with the above comment, you said 101mm that like what a 686 or something, and a crappy stage two. ha, youll feel a difference power band and maybe 3-4 hp. you want to reach full potential of that bike you have to port that head or else the mods your planning to do are going to be useless.
my advice for you is

sparks x6
k&N
101mm Wiseco try and get a 10:1, stock raptor rods dont like high compression.
Megacycle X-4 cam, instead of that crappy stage 2
kibblewhite springs are a must
have a professional port n polish your head, ie... craycraft, sparks, Kenz

You will notice a good difference, but I suggest a rev box to increase your RPM's much higher so you could get that extra HP at higher RPM's.

Post after you have it done and tell us what you think.....I know for fact you will see a difference. The first things I did to my 01 was Stage 1 cam, jetting, filter, and exhaust and it was a day and night difference. I now have an 05 with stage 2 cam and 727 kit and it is night and day difference from my 01. I personally would spend the money on new a-arms, axle, and shocks before I did any engine work.

I dont strongly disagree with your statements and recommendations, but I dont exactly promote all of them either.

10:1 compression: The stock rod isn't usually that weak. An 11:1 CR with 101mm piston should be fine as long as you inspect the rod and crank while its apart and make sure its in good shape beforehand.

Megacycle x4: Its a great cam but its more top end oriented than many recreational riders care to go. From what I have gathered from my conversations with him, Jerstilly needs a good deal of low end and midrange power for the type of riding he does. The sparks does a good job of holding on to that power while providing good top end, but with a 10:1 CR I think you would have too much of a top end bias with the x4.

Professional Porting - Yes, it can make a big difference but its not everything like on a 2 stroke.

The higher copmression piston and new cam combo will add a decent amount of power and give you a seat of the pants power increase even without porting. But a port job will add a few hp.

A 101mm is something like 673cc or so.

With a stage 2 you will be making peak power a good deal under 9k rpm and really should only see the limiter in first gear. An extra 1k rpms may sound good, but they arent going to be all that useful.

I agree with what you are wanting to do. I think you should wait to pull yor head untill you can have it ported. Going larger on the bore also allows for unshrouding the valves. As far as the rev limit I dont know but one custom ground camshaft that makes or maintains peak power above 8500 rpm. All other big cams start falling off at 8500 or so. I can tell your from experience that maintained high (9000+) can and will cause your decompression system to fly apart.
Unless you are drag racing the ignitions dont do that much good. One with just a higher rev limit wont do you any good without MAJOR mods to your engine. The adjustable ones such as the DYNA are nice because the curves are prgramable and the are several outputs on them for switching. But to get it and the programmer kit your looking at about $600.
I happen to like the Stage 2 camshaft. It is a good all around cam. The higher compression will make up for the slight bottom end loss. The Meagacycle X4 is an exellent camshaft and make very good power but higher in the rpm range and it is double the cost.

oh well maddag im sorry to hear you disagree with me but i dont care, no where in the guys statement does he say he is going to do rec riding, or does he want bottom end. the stock cam good bottom, all the aftermarket cam makers make top end cams beause the big thumper allready has good bottom end, AND IF he does only rec ride, and looking for bottom head, hear should start poking for torque numbers then not horsepower.

for starters my 43 ft lbs.

You dont have to care, you just stated that you "strongly disagreed" with another member's statement so I figured I'd respond in the same way. Not a big deal and certainly not anything personal...

Peak torque is important, but you have to watch at what rpms you are making your torque just like your hp. 50 lb ft of torque doesnt do me all that much good if its only attainible in a 100rpm range also. Useable torque at a proper rpm is more important than peak, just like hp for anything other than drag racing.
