kodiak 450 rear brakes.. poor on the pedal. HELP!
#1
my rear brakes are not bad on the hand brake, but almost non-existent on the pedal. thing is, with the engine braking, I BARELY ever use them, so they shouldn't be worn out. and they're hydraulic disc, so no adjustment (?). Any suggestions?

I havent riden any quad, where the back brake foot pedal has been impressive.
Is it possible there is something in the way of full travel of the pedal? I know on mine the floorboards keep me from getting full travel. If youre on a hill, will the foot pedal hold the quad from rolling?

Hondabuster I guess you've never ridden a prairie? On my prairie both the handle and foot brake have adjustment nuts to dial in the sensitivity you want. You can make it really touchy or dead feeling. I haven't really looked yet on the kodiak because I'm so used to using the handbrakes. Plus the rear brake squealing is more of an immediate concern in my case at least with the kodiak.

Youre right, Ive heard the prairies brakes are the best. Totally sealed, long life, and strong...all quad brakes should be like that.
I was looking thru the service manual, and there is an adjustment if the pedal isnt high enough. The foot pedal, should be roughly 3 inches higher than the serrated foot pegs. If it isnt, you might not be getting enough travel with the pedal to activate the brakes.

i was going to say, my prairies pedal works so good. About a month ago i was riding agessivly and i had it in 4 wheel drive. I came in hard into the corner and at the last second a slamed on the pedal and my rear wheels popped off the ground a foot. The guy on the rancher was laughing when i slowed down. We always get on him because he rides right on peoples butts. I always say, hey brian, you have honda brakes, not kawasaki. haha. later.

If you do alot of mud riding, that can wear down the brake pads in a hurry. My son always wears them out on his Warrior. I know some guys that had the same problem on their 300EX's. I had a problem wearing rear brakes on my Wolverine. That dirt on your rotor is like sandpaper on those pads. The rotor goes round and round with all that grit sticking to it and it just eats the pads up. I heard Honda put some kind of scraper on the new 500 Foreman to clean the dirt and mud off the discs.
