Raptor Reverse Limiter
#32
LMAO! i cut the green/white wire and grounded (the end that goes down next to the rear shock) and left the other end(end coming out of oem connector) sealed and hahaha started her up and now i have a 2000rpm rev limiter at all times! what did i do wrong? do i have to ground the other wire that i just taped up? thanks o yea the reverse light is also on at all times even with just the key on.

Hey,
And I doubt Yamaha would make a "weak reverse gear" and put it in a quad. Here's why. Even with the limiter enabled you can rev the motor to the redline when its in reverse, with the clutch pulled in. You can then drop the clutch, and the clutch grabs just before the rev limiter kicks in....that means if you wanted to (though any sensible rider wouldn't) you could drop the clutch at full power.....If yamaha's alleged "weak gear" were in there they would have designed the limiter so this wasn't possible....I'm sure the tranny is fine, its just a safety issue for people who can't control their left hand and right thumb. However, if your ground works loose, you will all of a sudden have your limiter again and you can expect to do a back flip if your wheels don't slide (most likely they won't)!!! Its a risk, but worth it.

You on crack?!?!? i was out my Raptor riding around and i rememberd you saying i could rev it all the way up in reverse with the clutch in...well i shift into reverse, and reved it with the clutch in...and lets say, the rev limiter works still, you CANNOT rev it up to redline with the clutch pulled in while in reverse

yeah I've been known to traffic drugs quite a bit....I'm workin on it...
sorry you had a different result than me man....
anyway that is beside the whole point of what I was saying, the point was that the reverse gear in the tranny isn't weak and will take more torque and higher rpm's than the 3k that the reverse limiter will allow. I think anybody that has bypassed their reverse rev limiter will probably agree...I haven't heard of anybody grenading a Raptor Tranny because the reverse gear was too weak to take it.
