We purchased a Triton SL8 because my wife wanted a trailer she could easily move by herself with two ATVs on it. My wife has a Ph.D. - not a champion weight lifting belt. The trailer has worked out great. The SL8 is very light.

I have been pulling our utility trailer with midsize family cars to Northern Michigan for 20 years. Lubricate the bearing and keep the tires in good shape. You should not have any problems.

I have a 5x14 foot Big Tex trailer with a gate that I use to haul my two quads around. It fits the two quads great and is great behind my car. I use a 98 Dodge Intrepid as the power supply. The vehicle is rated to two 2000lbs. The trailer itself weighs about 700lbs and I pull a Banshee (400lbs) and a race 250r (unknown weight, but guess 300lbs).

I never drive the car with the trailer in normal auto. Since my dodge has a auto stick, I can manually take the weight off the tranny. Basically the auto stick is a standard with out the clutch. The only time I use 4th (top gear) is when I am on a flat highway. Other times I am in 3rd.

Stopping is not that bad. I have found that the weight of the trailer will warp the rotors faster than without, but that is too expected. Emergency stopping is possible, higher speeds is pushing it, but since I am under the tow limit, it is as expected.

I used to work for a landscaping company and pulled trailers all day long. So I am used to driving with heavy loads and trailers. I know while driving to allow for the extra room of braking. By the way, I will get about 18 miles to the gallon under normal driving with the trailer and car. A truck will be in the near future, but out of my price range now. But my Dodge does have 225 horsepower so pulling is not a problem. On the big steep hills, I just take my time and allow the motor/tranny to tell me the speed I can sustain.

Hello Calvin,

I'm interested in purchasing the Triton SL8. Can you tell me if these models have an optional electric brake? If so, I would be more interested in it.

Thanks,

IronBear
