Default Grizz 660 vs Kodak 450

I've narrowed down my choice to the Grizz 660 or Kodiak 450. The features are very similar, but I've heard the 450 handles better. I don't think it's that much different than the Grizz, but haven't ridden them to compare. At 260lbs, I think the extra 210cc is definately worth it, but would like some opinions. Also, stock for stock, how do they compare? I will modify either down the road, but for the time being it will remain stock.

Any opinions are appreciated.

Longbox,

I own both an '04 Kodiak and an '05 Grizzly. I would say the Kodiak handles a little easier and gets slightly better gas mileage. The Grizzly seems to be more of a plush ride. Very confortable. The Grizzly will have more low end torque and top end. I've gotten the Kodiak to 60mph and the Grizzly to 69 mph. Both are great machines. I just wanted the extra cc's the grizzly offers. Hope this helps.

I have the same question. When I sit on both machines side by side at the dealership or push the rear suspension around it seems like the Griz is MUCH stiffer than the Kodiak. Being that they both are IRS I figured the Griz would feel about as soft as the Kodiak. I'm looking for a smooth ride at my age. Does something different happen when the machine is in use that would make the Griz more "plush"? The only other diffference I can see in the rear is that the Kodiak has a single external rear disc brake, whereas the Griz has the internal clutch type rear brake. Any difference I should consider on that issue in that I will not be going thru mud bogs but will be plowing snow?

I assume you are comparing the Kodiak with IRS???....they do handle better than the Grizz......probably mostly do to the lower center of gravity. The shocks are placed in a better position on the rear than the Grizz also.Power wise the Grizz will kill it but most trail riding is around 15-20 mph so until you hit a straight stretch it will not matter.
On other thing a little nicer with the Kodiak is it is more manuverable in tight places. If just having more power is important than get the Grizz otherwise get the Kodiak. They are rock solid reliable and have not had the issues that the Grizz has had...

Neversunk,

I think what makes the Grizzly more plush is that it has 2.4" more rear travel than the Kodiak. 7.1" Rear travel on Kodiak and 9.5" Rear travel on Grizzly. After all is considered...GET THE GRIZZ!

I didn't need the extra power so went with the 05 Kodiak. On the trails I ride I rarely go over 30. I am completely happy and would make the same choice. I am especially happy with the IRS and the ride it gives. At 50 it is nice to be able to ride all day and still walk the next morning.

OK....so I can see that riding of the rough trails a lot of younger guys use the beat the snot out of themselves their gear with would be smoother with the extra suspension travel of the griz. But if I'm not beating it that hard to bottom the suspension in the first place would'nt I get a smoother ride yet out of the softer suspension of the Kodiak? I don't mean to beat this subject to death.....just have no opportunity to test drive either unit.....but I know either unit will be a better ride than the rigid frame of my 200 ATC even on smooth ice!!!!
