new quad???

The 450r doesn't like to be lugged down. I ride mostly desert "trails" and wide open stuff and it does great in both but you need to keep the rpm's up a little and use the clutch alot in tighter technical stuff. I'm sure dropping a tooth on the front sprocket would solve my lugging problem. As for the Z, don't count it out!! Best trail machine made IMO. Plenty of power to go wherever you want and a ton of fun. For tighter trails or when I'm cruising with the kids I'll take the Z .

yea but like i said before. the types of trails i run on are not that tight. usually im 3rd gear on my 300ex when im going through them. so unless the 450R's first gear is like 3rd gear on my 300ex i shouldnt have a problem. and after researching for like ever. i come to the conclusion that the raptor just wouldnt be the right quad for me. i like to jump alot, i need very good handling, and go very fast trail riding. the raptor seems like it just wasnt made to be jumped alot, and go super fast trail riding. even when i sit on one it just seems like it sits way to high for my taste. (but it does feel comfortable, and i give it credit for that) but comfort isnt an issue for me. so i guess getting a raptor is out of the question for me. now i guess it comes down to TRX450R or maybe just get a 400ex instead.

if you want something that flies as well as it wheelies, you cannot go wrong with the yfz, besides the price tag! i can wheelie 1st through 4th gear and get about 3feet of air off a 1 1/2- 2 foot snow drift.

dont get a 400ex.......you already have a tricked 300ex......its about the same as that anyways.
dont turn the Z-400 away.....the liquid cooled Z-400 wastes the air cooled 400ex.........liquid cooled makes alot of difference.
the price tag on the Z-400 is very good for out the door prices too. dont rule it out, before you buy one you should definately check one out.

i know you guys will laugh at me for this but....the reason i really dont want a z400, is its looks. lol. i dont know why but i just dont like how it looks, with the 2 lights going vertical to each other. i just dont like it.
you guys say that the z400 is better then the 400ex. they are both 400cc bikes? how can one be that much better? how much of a difference would it be if we both ( my neighbor and i) drag raced. with both of our bikes stock.

Well, the Z is a bit different. It is smoother, the power is a lot different. By this I mean it revs higher than the ex, and it doesn't have as much low end grunt as the ex. Just because they are both 400's, it means nothing.
IMO, for strictly trail use, I think the 300ex, 400ex, Z400, and Raptor is the way to go. If you like a little more performance, then go for the Raptor or Z400, not to say the 400ex is that far off. Personally, I like the Z the best (that is why I bought one) because it is better balanced and that is what I look for in a quad, but that is not to say the Raptor isn't as good or better. It is just what you prefer, I wouldn't mind it if I owned a Rappy instead. I used to not like Suzuki either.
Don't count the 450R out, but you might want to think hard about it if you are a trail rider. The 450R will be 'cooler' at first, but down the road you might be wanting a better "trail" bike. If you do get the R, I would recommend a smaller front sprocket, that really makes it nicer on trails.

I'm on my second Raptor.....I have an 01 and an 05. If Price is your issue go ahead and get a new 400ex. They have reverse now. I just purchased my 05 and I looked at the yfz and 450r. I went with the Raptor for electric start and reverse........enough said right there. Every time I ride trails I thank myself for the reverse. My buddy has a 400 ex without reverse and I spent more time off mine helping him move it around then I spent on mine. That is one thing to consider.....As far as tippiness goes, I have no probs there but I also have spent a little on mine to compensate all of that and I love how it rides.

the raptor looks tippy, but if you junk the stock tires it wont tip at all.......the stock dunmops have a tendency to bite when you try to fan a corner.
and there is a big difference in the Z-400 and 400EX....the z-400 is liquid cooled which means when they design the motor the tolerances can be alot tighter.....thus allowing the motor to rev higher and feel alot smoother and generate more power. The 400EX is air cooled.......has power...but is out ponied when it comes to lining these two bikes up.
