Default Would you keep a Warrior

I thought I would ask everyone's view on this.

I grew up riding a 1979 Yamaha GT-80 around my backyard and its never needed a tuneup in over 10 years. So last spring I started to shop for Yamaha ATVs and I picked up a brand new 03 Warrior 350 for $2900. It sat in a guy's garage for over a year and he needed it gone. I never run out of power but, as you know, their top speed is not the badest thing on the block. I got the Warrior because of its price and reliability, but now that i'm more into ATVing I want something with a lot more pull. So I was at the local Yamaha dealer and they offered me $3000-$3100 to trade the Warrior in. They have used Raptor 660s for $4900-4999. They said the YZF450 really cut into their 660 resale values. They also have a 03 DS-650 Baja for $4999(Yes, I know its not a Yamaha, but its big with a tachometer, so it must be cool)

What would you do?

A) Trade-in the new Warrior(used one year) for more than what I paid for it and get something that is a ton faster stock but used for $2000 extra.

B) Do the normal Warrior mods: pipe, filter/intake, skidplates, replace stock tires. ($600-$800 if I get everything used, other than the pipe/tires)

C) Park the Warrior in winter. Wait till the river freezes, do 110mph on a $900 snowmobile and die like everyone else does.

D) Keep the Warrior, buy a Raptor 660 and DS-650 baja, become homeless for a year.

I'm 6'4 and I really do like the Raptor 660 because of its size. Even more so with DS-650. I just don't know if I'm paying $2000 for just a little more fun. I mean spending $5,000 doesn't sound bad to me but I'll have to pay tax (again) on all this stuff. I look at the pictures of the Raptor 660 and DS-650 and I get this twitch to go get one. Then I see this classic, brand new Warrior sitting in the garage. 17 years of ATV history. I know I would always treat it well but what will the next guy do to it?

D without a doubt. Im in the same boat as you but I think I am going to keep the warrior. I have a 97 with all the mods but it still isnt fast enough. So I am saving my pennies for a DS 650X. I can pick one up brand new for about 6700.00. I know my warrior is reliable so I will keep it as a spare just in case.

Yep D.

I had a 90 YZ 125 that got rode hard and only needed tires every 2 years.

Got out of riding, came back to quads and knew I wanted a Yamaha..got the Warrior for my first quad, then like you needed something bigger.

I would say D also, I'll never get rid of the warrior. I see it being like having a classic car in a way.

As much as I love my Warrior I don't know if I could turn down the opportunity to actually make money on a motor vehicle sale!! I'm in a similar type situation to you in that if I was to keep the old Warrior and try and buy a new quad it would quite literally make me homeless for a year or more .. not to mention divorce .. alimony, child support, blah blah ...

I would be nice to keep it, but if you're on a budget, this seems one heck of a deal for you ...

i am also in a simular situation i bought a Raptor350 a little over a year ago and i want to sell it and get a yfz450. i was going to keep it and do a bunch of mods to it but it is so much easier to go and buy the yfz so thats what i am going to do! you should do whatever makes you happy if you want a faster quad than buy a faster quad you only live once and you should go into as much debt as possible before you die

I say if you can swing it keep it and get the newer one ( which ever you choose). If you keep it you can have a buddy ride with you. If you think it may be to much to keep it, trade it. Your making money on the deal, and that is sumpin you dont see everyday. The upgrade will make you very happy. So I say if you can swing it go D, if not go A. Good luck and let us know what you deciede.
