05 Wolverine or 05 Big Bear 400..?

Well i want to get a small sized ute because i dont want a big like tank sized ute. lol I was looking at the big bear and than thought id look at the wolverine just to look at on the yamaha website. I relized they were the same price so i started thinking of the wolverine too because i see alot of them on the back of trucks around here. (not where i ride but around my area). Well if i got a wolverine i would first get a warn 424 select which would be a must. Bu ti was woundering if the wolverine has alot of power/torque or would the big bear be better. Id be riding on roads, loose gravel, grass, open fields, mud, creeks, trails, dirt, and probably like loose wet/muddy dirt. Thanxs, Jimmy

Hi, I thought I would pass along my experiences with my '04 wolverine, maybe it can help you decide. I didn't want a big tank sized ute either, and I came across the wolverine, which peaked my interest. First, it's FUN! I wouldn't trade it for anything, and if I have to get another atv, I'd probably get another wolve also...I ride mostly on national forest land trails, which consist of all the things you mentioned and haven't had a problem yet. The wolverine has been dependable, and stable so far. About the power/torque...I wasn't happy with the low end torque with the stock set up, so I installed a pro-circuit t4 pipe (I have the same pipe on a different atv and was happy with that brand so that's what made me go with this one also) and re-jetted it, plus an aftermarket air filter...to me it made a big difference. I think that most off the rack atv's will need some tweaking to get the ride you like.
I noticed more power on the low end, which is where you need it when riding trails, and going up hills, etc. Plus, it has plenty of top end for me. I don't race, but when I want to go fast, I can. You can't sling a four wheel drive around as well as a two wheel drive, due to the front wheels grabbing the dirt, but you can still slide the back end around somewhat, but with the 424 you should be able to whip it around nicely. Check around before you buy though, because it's hard to find aftermarket tires for the stock rims that are the same size diameter. I think that most of the aftermarket tires are going to be about 2 inches larger in diameter, which from what I have heard will change the power characteristics of the machine? Still I like the stock tires, they provide plenty of bite and are pretty tough too. Hope this help, I have alot of fun with my wolverine, but I can't comment on the big bear since I haven't ridden one. Good Luck!

I used to ride with a guy that had a BigBear and my wolvy would just plain out perform (on the trails). I like the all around disk brakes on the wolvy. I have a pic posted here that my buddy hates. Buy practical, If you want fun, buy the wolvy, if you want more of a workhorse get the BB. If you make the right choice you won't be disappointed, there both great bikes.

Titan makes the 489 tire in the stock Wolverine size. That's the only tire I know of in that size.
