05 Grizzly recoil/manual starter
#1
Well....I finallly found that it only takes 4 hours of leaving the heated grips on to kill the battery. I was on the ice fishing...and figured "no problem...thats what the recoil starter rope is for". WRONG!!! Me and two other guys tried to start it using that rope.... NO WAY! Is there a compression release for that somewhere? I had the key on, and it was in park and we could'nt even make it bark. It has 11 hours and about 92 miles on it...is it possibly too tight from not being fully broke in? I was afraid the rope was gonna wear out and break. Its a very poor angle to pull on with that much resistance, but it really seems to be way more resistance that it should have. Anybody else tried theirs? Does it get easier after it breaks in? It must be somewhat broken in because it gets up to 62 mph on short blasts to WOT before I back down and seems to be running fine although the muffler is really quite discolored from heat. I'm wondering if I overheated it on break in.....it does not get overly hot when running, but we only had 45 degrees today too. Al opinions would be greatly appreciated in that I will buy the extended aftermarket STAR warranty before the factory warranty expires if I've screwed something up....

It does seem almost impossible but I can do it if I pull very steady and powerful at first, then give it all I got as soon as it starts moving. It does seem like something is going to break though. I just tried it to see if it worked. Dealer told me if you have a low battery that won't turn over engine your supposed to pull on it while pushing the starter button, that gives you just a little help to pull start it easier.
My muffler looks discolored already too.
Sounds like everything is ok with your quad, nothing to worry about.

To pull start the Grizzly, you need to give the rope a couple of short tugs until you can feel the piston release the compression. After that, let the rope all the way back in and give it a good pull. It is still hard, but it is possible.

Grizzley adams to the rescue again......I'm gonna try that tomorrow and see what happens. I got it started by borrowing one of them remote starter battery thingeys....I connected the terminals, held down the start button on the Griz and only turned on the remote battery long enough to turn it over/start it. I was afraid that thing would blow up my battery or wreck something electrical in my machine. I'm just surprised that little battery even turns that nasty thing over in the first place! Its got some real compression to it! Nothing like a one lunger......
