powder coating raptor parts
#1
I would like to powder coat the a-arms on my raptor. They are stock so they have the fixed ball joints. Has anyone done this, know someone that has, or knows if it can be done. At what temp does a pro powder coater bake at and will this temp harm the ball joints? I would appreciate any info or input, Thanks!

Average temperature is about 400*F for baking the powder coated parts. Most likely, it might be possible to damage the ball joints, but i'm not sure. I'm buying an '05 Raptor next weekend but i'm not sure if the ball joints are removable or not.

it will 100% ruin your ball joints. powdercoating is around 400o you'll have to have you local shop press you stockers out before you powdercoat. the problem is that the heat causes the grease in you ball joint to melt and turn into a water-like subtance, which will run all over your new powdercoat, which is going to ruin the finish, and is why no one will powdercoat the arms with the ball joint in. no one want to put their name on a product that turns out like sh*t. so i guess you could say it wont harm your ball joint but it will ruin the final finish. i know where you can get your hands on a lonestar +2 used for $350 if your interested. also powdercoting is around $50 bucks if you do your tie-rods also.

I had the LT's frame powder coated and I forgot to remove some rubber bushings, when I got the frame back all the stuff was gone and the shop guys didnt remove them, so I guess they melted. Just make sure the shop knows that they have to plug every threaded hole or else you will have a hard time getting stuff on. BTW, they did the entire frame flat black for $125-150..cant remember

Thanks for the replys. Unless the stock a-arms are not the same on your raptor as mine, they can not be pressed out. If they were removable i would think you could buy relacement ball joints, however that is not the case. If a ball joint goes bad and you choose to replace it with genuine yamaha parts, you have to buy the entire a-arm ball joint assembly. If you know something i don't, let me in on it, I would like to get the arms I have powder coated. I hate the way over time the factory paint wears off and light surface rust appears after riding in wet conditions.

Hey "CT" you said you know of some +2 Lonestar's for $350.00 for a raptor. What condition are they in as I might be intrested in them? Are they the origonal grey color or have they been powdercoated another color? What else does he have and do you have pics of these.
Thanks, Vegas
