Default Hot cam in 660R __ Ned Help !!!!!!!

I just put a STAGE 1 Hot Cam in my 2004 660R. It fires up and seems to run great for a bout 20 Sec. and then the exhaust pips right off of the head start to get so hot they glow!!! Any idea????

I'm pretty sure that means you're running lean, but don't take my word alone on the matter.

yup your running lean, does it do this why'll idleing? or riding? what other mods do you have? Try going up to a 25 Piolit jet, or just turn the air screews out a turn. also, bump up your main jet a size on each carb

WOW, That is a relief. I thought I screwed something up. I've installed the cam twice now because it did this the first time and I thought I screwed up the motor. Im running a proflow intake and the stock muffler. The cam is the only other mod. It sounds like I need to give the motor more fuel, right??

Have some questions. What does a pilot jet, main jet, and needle all do? Heck my pipes are always glowing. Maybe I should change somethings up. I have changed them all out but just don't really know what they do. I forget things easily.

I spoke with a cople of shops in my area to day and spoke with HotCams and they all say that a little glowing is normal but going up to a larger main jet will lower my exhaust temps a little. And help give it a little more power. I still need to install a after market exhaust. any I deas on whtch one is the best for a good price

Try turning out your air fuel screws a 1/4 turn at a time...That should help alot. and put a good pipe and header on it. It'll make a big difference.I like Sparks and CT Racing myself but Yoshi is ok I guess.

Thanks for the help, I turned out my fuel / air screws about a half a turn and that helped. the pipes dont get as hot. And now I'm off to find a new exhaust tomarrow, any thing at this point has got to flow better than the stock one. Thanks for the help.
