Default How hard would it be to put a larger motor in a quad?

Hey guys I was just lookin on ebay and I see 350 warrior motor and I was wondering how much fabrication would it take to bolt that up to my beartracker which is a 250 motor?.. I think there would be plenty of room but the main thing is the driveline, how hard would it be to put all that together, its shaft drive.. or would it be easier to just bore out the 250 as much as possible to squeeze more power out of it? anyone ever do anything like this I know Ive heard of people putting crotch rocket motors in quads... well if anyone has any imput let me know.. thanks guys

Explore the route of getting an overbore kit with a cam and pipe first. Unless you have all the die grinders and welders, that is a huge undertaking. To pay a machinest is just not cost-effective.

I have a project blaster chassis that I'm stuffing a Yamaha XS400 twin into, but the chassis cost me nothing, and it was in sad shape anyway. I had the engine sitting around in my garage for years. I have nothing to loose but my time. I have all the requisite tools needed to undertake such a project.

Heres what all has to happen. Sprocket has to lign up horizontally AND vertically otherwise the chain will drag on things or be crooked and mess stuff up (Assuming both bikes are chain drive, dunno wth you do if they arent). The shifter has to be in a decent place. You have to pray the stock exhaust has moderately usable routing or youll be buying custom fab work. Of course you have to fab up some motor mounts and transfer all the electronics making the appropriate brackets to hold them. Then the small stuff like throttle set up, cltuch set up, it goes on and on and on. And thats just the expected stuff, there are other things that just crop up. I wouldnt do it unless your making a really cool hotrod or something. Not worth it to make a slow bike a bit less slow.

The old 400 twin I have (like the chassis) is a Yamaha, is rather compact, electric / kick start, and runs on points ignition. Just to do this, the chassis needs to be lengthened by four inches, the diagonal bracing through the middle has to be moved, new mounts must be fabricated and welded in, and the gas tank will have to be changed to something different. The exhaust will be a "Y" to a single exit, and the airbox in the rear fender can be resused with minor modifications. The brakes and suspension do not change, but I may lengthen the rear swing arm just a bit to balance out the chassis change. The rest of the controls and electrical are a minor undertaking.

I would not do this to a machine that was new or in decent shape. This was a junkyard dog that I got for free.

On the Blaster you will have a serious issue with the stock brakes. I am in the middle of changing my Blaster brakes over to Banshee brakes. I am also lengthening and widening the stance. I ordered A arms for it and am going to run an extended swingarm with Banshee axle or Warrior axle.(if I find that they are the same length as the Banshee) This Blaster is for my GF to ride. It has been worked over a bit so that it runs about like a stock 250R. The stock brakes are NOWHERE NEAR being good enough to stop properly.
