question re: performance cam/piston for raptor
I purchased a web cam on ebay, # 461-496. From what I understand it is similar to a "stage one" cam. Is this correct? Since I am going this far into the engine for cam replacement, I am also considering a new piston with higher compression like a weisco 11 to 1 or 12 to 1.
Is it much more work to do so? If I were to replace the piston, would a 11 to 1 or 12 to 1 be better?
the machine is a 2001 660 and has had the starter and transmission upgrade. Thanks for any help/comments

I will answer your question with a question.
Do you really want to screw around with racing gas or octane boosters? Or do you just want to go to the pump and fill-er up? This will be the difference between the12 to 1 vrs the 11 to 1.
PS your from Sac. and you will see $3.00 a gallon pump prices within the month, isn't that enough to pay? $2.94 for super here today!!!!

question re: performance cam/piston for raptor
Another suggestion if I may, Check into a Ross or CP piston...10:75 to1 ratio. I run 87 and 89 octane in mine and it screams. I have the Hotcams stage 2 cam though. Not alot of people go with the Wiesco piston....some do but most don't....You may also need a new rod since yours is an '01'. Mine was scored pretty bad when I took my motor apart. Also if you decide to go to 12 to 1 on race gas, I'd suggest tapping your head for 10mm head bolts as well . If you go that far then also should get your head ported and polished. question re: performance cam/piston for raptor
No, Craycraft and Kenz people dont go with the Wiseco. And I really dont see why a lot more people do. Those of us that dont see a need to spend 2x as much on a pump gas compression small bore piston stick with the wiseco. And from all of the people on here, I've never and I repeat NEVER seen anyone complain about a bad wiseco in their raptor. I ran one for over a year and even after busting my head bolts once its still in prime condition. In fact, I just re-rung it for the new build.
Now I understand if you want a custom piston compression instead of the true 11:1 that wiseco has standard that you need to get another brand, or if you want something bigger than 102mm. Otherwise I dont see any reason not to use it. One can claim that Ross and CP may be of better quality, but if the Wiseco's aren't failing then why does it matter? Most of the big engine guys here were sure that JE was far superior to Wiseco a couple years ago.

question re: performance cam/piston for raptor
knock on wood, but their is nothing rong with my wiseco, and she pulls hella good numbers. stallion is right most people choose something other than the wiseco. the wiseco is cheap and easy to come by. each is a little different. and to each is own, figure out what else you want to do while you in their, High comp piston are bad news for the stock rod.

question re: performance cam/piston for raptor
Thanks for your replies. The lower compression 11 to 1 will be my choice based on your replies and what I was thinking anyhow. I did not mean to start a debate regarding the "best piston". I only mentioned the weisco because they are a well known brand and have been in the business for a long time. Is there a general consensus regarding who makes the best quality 11 to 1 piston? Also, I was still wondering, is that web cam that I bought similar to a "stage one" cam? One more question for italion stalion...is the 01 rod different from the later models?

There is no consensus, but if you ask the engine builders you will hear Ross and CP up and down. Both are great. Not trying to debate whether one is better than the other, so much as trying to explain that one is more than up to the necessary standards.
Your web cam:
Lift: .340/355
Duration: 260/232
Grind: 461/496
Description: Bolt in cam increases overall power. Can be used with higher compression piston. Stock springs OK. Includes compression release.
Stage 1 HC:
Intake Exhaust
Lift Duration Lift Duration
8.5 mm 254 ° 9.4 mm 246 °
Description: Excellent midrange and top end power increase. Uses stock valve springs.
So basically they are the same idea, but the specs are a little different.
