Any other ideas or is the washers a good way to solv the problem? Can i unscrew the valve stem and install a shorter one in its place? Please help!!

No the valve stem just doesn't unscrew most are pulled in from behind. Go and get a set of flush fit valve stems and put them in. Just deflate the tires pull the old one out and screw the new ones in. We sell them at work for about 7 bucks a pair.

The reason that the other guy did it and you can't is becuase you have a 03 blaster. In 2003 yamaha finally added hyro brake's to the blaster and there isn't as much clearance as there was on the earlier model's. You do not have to drill a hole in the other side of the rim to fix this problem. Simply go to tractor supply or some place like that and get the shortest valve stem's they got. They should run u like 5 buck's at the most then just put the smaller valve stem's in. Easy fix and pretty cheap as well :-). I know for a fact this will work becuase i did it to my 03 blaster.

how much of the caliper is it hitting?i flipped the wheels on my scrambler around and had the same problem,mine only hit a little on the bottom edge of the caliper.i ended up grinding a little off the caliper,took care of the problem..

 

The stem hits about a quarter of an inch from the top of the stem. I put some washers on the studs but it still hits. I think im gonna buy some shorter valve stems and try that. If not ill just buy some aluminum wheel spacers for the thing[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img] Also if i were to powder coat my rims black would i have to clear coat them also? Yea a 1/4 inch is a lot. I had to just remove the valvestem caps so it didnt hit. Either get spacers, or get flush valvestems, or flip that valvestem, and drill a hole in the outside of the rim and insert a new stem so you can have access to it easiy. --Rider1169

 

just to make sure - when drilling a new valve stem hole does the hole have to be perfect size. +/- 1/16" would be OK? Drilling at home with a cordless drill is not as accurate as a drill press or a machine shop.;

Please dont grind the caliper or add washers to anything!! Get the shorter valve stems! Or heres what McGyver would do: Drill a hole on the other side of the rim and install a valve stem. Then flip the original valve stem around backwards so that the long part is inside of the tire. But I would just buy the short ones and be done with it and forget about McGyver.
