Gary,

Yes, it is in the intake tract, but prior to the filter. That fautl was a slip up on the design team. If they went to the trouble to route it that far, they should have put it on the clean side.

Anyone know what kind of filter will fit the tube? Is there an automotive equivalent that will work, or am I going to have to order something?

I was just checking out the Raptor review on this site.....I noticed that there are 2 tubes in between the air box and the carbs in one of the photos. What are these for? Note: I have looked at mine a couple times, but have never really ran the tubes down (assumed they were crankcase vent tubes).

Wow!!

A Factory Path for dirt, grit, and sand to get into the Raptor's 660 motor.

What in the world was "Knobby" and the rest of the Yamaha Design Team thinking??

This little undocumented feature should ground ALL
Raptors right now. Who wants to own a $6500+ garage decoration??

This forum thing works great. Aside from these problems, have the typical Axel/wheel bending come up yet with you, or is it just overhyped?

Grandpa has been having some bad luck with his Raptor *but* he bought it used. Who knows what the other person before him put the quad through before he sold it to him. He could have ridden it through mud with the oil filter loose, or revved the living crud out of it before it was broken in.

This is only one account in thousands, also I wouldnt pay too much attention to the claims of bending axles, I would say that is 100% rider error rather than a faulty product.

I am going on my third axle. And I do not care if anyone believes me are not. I've rode my Raptor 2 times and have two bent axles. Not to mention I can't seem to keep the chain tight. This weekend I not only bent my second axle..but my chain came off, just got it out of the shop on Saturday, and it ripped my chain guard off. That would not be to bad but, the chain guard is plastic and it ripped off the mounting area off of the motor. Plastic is stronger than aluminum?. I am getting a little upset about the quality of some of these parts. I have not even rode this thing hard yet. There's no doubt the Raptor rips...yes it's very fast in a straight line but I can't seem to take it anywhere with out something breaking.

AtvdunePro,

The Raptor was essentially a few hours old when I purchased it. The paperwork was dated the day before I picked it up. A friend of his who is also a friend of mine was the connection point that told me he was selling it on ebay. The bike was started, driven onto a trailer, and started again when I arrived to load it into my pickup. If the guy rode it around his 50X100' yard and didn't "break it in properly" and it has these problems then its a piece of junk and I wish I had never purchased it.

After speaking with the dealer this morning they say it was caused by dirt/metal shavings in the oil. I am guessing the metal shavings were a result of the dirt passing in somehow. Now either the dealer put dirt in the oil when they prepped the machine, it came dirty from the factory or it got in there some other way. I would guess some other way such as when it was in the last time for service (2 days prior--read original Raptor choking post) they screwed up and didn't put something back together properly or there is something to this crankcase vent issue. I ride in generally very dusty conditions but I highly doubt the dealer will mess around with finding out where the dust came from on the planet = ) I think its silly that so many people are trying to stick up for a machine and call us who are having legitimate problems liars. I LOVE THE MACHINE but we need to face the fact that we paid for a very expensive machine that was overhyped and may not be all its cracked up to be. At this point I am not satisfied and will not be until the issues that people are having are addressed. Until then, I'll ride my banshee. At least that way I know I will get from point A to point B without being stuck in the middle of no-where or worse have an A-Arm snap and end up dead over the side of a cliff.
