Looking into the Raptor
#1
Guys, honestly now, im looking into the raptor. Have a built 440Ex, need to know the honest details, pros/cons, Dealer problems, aside from availability, mechanical problems, and any other oddball things youve encountered. I know its the baddest thing out there, so be honest. Thanks.

I was considering a Raptor, but all I hear of is nightmares in this forum. I was a little hesitant to believe all of the a-arm and axle stories, till my buddy folded his a-arm a half hour into his first ride. I think I'll wait for the 2002's to come out.

The oil level was fine.. They first tried to blame it on me for that reason ; ) To make matters worse it just left the Yamaha dealer a day before the thing seized. In 40 years of owning motorcycles I have never had an engine seize and have always practiced preventive maintainence. I just traded a Harley with over 170,000 miles on the ORIGINAL engine and my banshee is 5 years old and still has perfect compression even after hundreds if not thousands of hours of seat time. I have to admit, If this is an example of yamaha's "4 stroke" technology I am very disappointed.

The crankcase breather connects in the intake tract?, so your engine was passing sand through or around the air filter? Was the air filter oiled from the factory? Mine was'nt and I even posted about it. If it turns out that it was'nt oiled, it should be the dealers fault...since their supposed to check everything before it left the shop.
