Default YFZ vs BANSHEE

.....Thanks!

Well, I am going off of what the calculator says. My yfz has 20 inch tires, has a 11,250 rpm limiter, due to after market cdi (+500) and my gearing is 15 front, 38 rear(stock). Punch in the numbers, its just short of 90mph, its like 89.29 something. There are 1000rpm limiters all over that would put you right over the edge of 90mph.
I know my quad will do this, as I run off my limiter in 5th gear. Yfz's have plenty of power to run taller gearing! Here is the website:

http://www.everything2stroke.com/resource/gear.php

These are the yfz's ratio's to be plugged into the calculator. You raptor or banshee guys will have to find your numbers. Just google search for banshee or raptor gear ratios.

mph = (rpm x tire diameter) / (gear ratio x 336)

to get the gear ratio for the formula above......1.050 x 2.714 x 2.818

Transmission
Primary reduction system........................Spur gear
Primary reduction ratio............................62/22 (2.818)
Secondary reduction system....................Chain drive
Secondary reduction ratio........................38/14 (2.714)
Transmission type...................................Constant mesh, 5-speed
Operation......................................... ......Left foot operation
Gear ratio
1st gear.............................................. ...29/12 (2.416)
2nd gear.............................................. ..27/14 (1.928)
3rd gear.............................................. ...25/16 (1.562)
4th gear.............................................. ...23/18 (1.277)
5th gear.............................................. ...21/20 (1.050)

Keep in mind this is gearing limited! That does not mean you can go that fast, unless you are topped out with no wheel spin and bouncing off the rev limiter. I was basically trying to show that yfz's are capable, and that banshee's, although claimed, will not get out of the 80's without serious gear changes, or bigger 22inch tires!

Heres the banshee ratios: Primary being internal, secondary being external (sprockets)

Primary reduction
Helical gear - 66/23:2.869
Secondary reduction
Chain drive - 41/14:2.929
Gear ratios
1st
2.461:1
2nd
1.812:1
3rd
1.500:1
4th
1.250:1
5th
1.045:1
6th
.875:1

I did note something that confused me. On everything2strokes.com, they have the banshee listed as having a 13/42 secondary (sprockets) My banshee had 14/41. Also the 1st gear ratio was off, I think they mistakenly put in the primary reduction ratio.
Any way, kind of interesting. Not sure what rpms banshee's wind out at, but clearly you are not going to be doing 90 or 100mph with them!!!
CANT ARGUE WITH COLD HARD NUMBERS AND MATHEMATICS!!!!

I run 16-39 gearing... 22" tires.... A ( PVL ) ignition with no rev limiter...
I have no 6th gear anymore, my Banshee is a 5 speed now...
I start in 2nd gear... And can go 100mph very easy.....

Blah blah blah Banshee, blah blah blah YFZ. Both great just made for different types of riding. If i was building a drag racer id go with the Banshee. If i wanted to race on a track i would go the YFZ route. The one with the most money into it, or the better rider is going to be the winner.

I believe the first year Banshees (87-88) had 13-42 gearing stock. They went to 14-41 in 89. That may be why the ratios you talked about were off also. Maybe the 87-88 trans ratios were different. Not sure.

We ride with banshees all the time, and I personally have a lot of time on the banshee. I have owned it, the raptor and now the yfz. The yfz is the better and faster of the two.
The banshee is a great machine and very fast, especially when tuned. BUT, untill you get into the motor on the banshee, it will not beat a yfz in a 300 ft drag. Those of you that keep saying that with like $500 a banshee will cream a yfz are quit frankly WRONG. If you put an exhaust, intake w/o lid, and do some jetting you will be faster on a yfz than on a bolt on modified banshee. YES, without a doubt, IMO, the banshee can be made into a FAR better drag racer than a yfz, but for most of us, where not out to make drag racing ONLY quads.
THere was a day of the banshee (actually many days, ha ha) but its time is far over. The yfz will just simply out perform it in every way. People really like the topspeed of the banshee, over the yfz. WELL, stock for stock, the banshee is usually infact 1-2 mph faster than the yfz................do you know how long it takes to use that 1-2mph advantage stock vs stock. LONGER THAN ANY DRAG RACE I HAVE EITHER DONE OR SEEN.
Those of you who dont already know this, if you are concerned with topspeed and having banshee's kill you in a all out race, you can simply install a 15 tooth front sprocket, and be hovering right about 88mph, and 89-90mph with a high rev limiter (cdi), keeping the stock 20 inch rear tires. You will feel very little difference down low, except that you can hold gears for a whole lot longer and that it keeps pulling and pulling. If you have the normal add ons, exhaust, intake, and jetting you have more than enough power to pull the 15! The 15 tooth front sprocket is highly recomended especially for the dunes. The yfz is just too short geared for open terrain like dunes, it was meant for the track. From experience, you can not alter the banshee's gearing too much, otherwise you "rob paul to pay peter" (you take power from the "non-exsistent" bottem end, to put it up top)
I would also like to state a FACT, that stock banshee's dont usually exceed the factory limited 75-76 mph mark STOCK. Stock yfz's will not exceed the factory limited 75mph, and usually fall short of it at about 74pmh. That being said, do yourself a favor, and go to everything2stroke.com, and use there gearing calculator. You will see that banshee owners that claim these rediculously bogus topspeeds are doing just that!! Find out for yourself how fast a banshee will go, gearing limited!! IT DOSE NOT MATTER IF YOU HAVE 190hspwr IN A BANSHEE, IF YOU HAVE STOCK GEARING YOU ARE NOT GOING TO GET OUT OF THE 80'S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just face the facts, times have changed and the banshee is not a superior machine, especially when compared to the YFZ450!!

You ROCK. And I mean that with the upmost sincerity! Finally someone who is not afraid to speak the truth. You are so right. The banshee is no longer the superior machine. Hats off to you!

Oh and stock shees are really slow. I know I used to have one. Now modded its a totally different world and on pavement I can totaly embarrass modded 450 left and right. Who brags about a stock bike. ALL BIKES ARE SLOW STOCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love the 450 its a great bike for turning and for jumping crap but for going fast its not it unless you happy with stock speed.

Show me a stock bore 450 with 70-80 Hp or any yfz for that matter. Its not going to happen a shee can get that with a port and a crank.

Have a nice day.
