Default 1999 600 Grizzly troubleshooting

Having trouble.....motor sounds like it's knocking. Before tearing it down, I was wondering if anyone knows of an adjustment to the chain. Sounds like the chain is slapping more so than a knock. Is there possibly any adjustments that can be made to the chain or does anyone have any ideas? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

That's the one.....I'm trying to think which side is the belt side of the motor and I'm at a loss. Sitting on the bike, the sound comes from the right side. Hope you can help and thanks for the response.

The belt's on the right side as you are sitting on it.How bad is the knock??? These have a tendecy to knock slightly. It's the shoes in the primary. When I got my Kodiak (my first belt drive quad) I thought it was knocking but it's just the nature of the beast. How many miles does it have and have you had it long??

It's definitely a bad knock....it sounds like the chain is hitting the case but I don't want to adjust it as I can't find anything on the proper adjustments for it. I have only had the bike about 3 months and it has a little over 3K on it. It just recently started doing this too. The sounds doesn't increase or decrease with speed/idling it is a constant. How did you determine it was the shoes in the primary on yours?

I compared it to another one. It's actually rollers in a Yamaha.I believe there is no adjustment for the cam chain. Most anymore are self adjusting. If it's coming out of the rt side where the belt is you might take the cover off to see if the belts ok and that nothing has came loose.Don't worry about taking the cover off on a Yamaha, you can't hurt anything and they have a rubber gasket that re-useable.We have only had one 600 Grizz in our group but it got totalled long before 3k miles so he really did not have it long enough to develope any problems.
