rider drag race skills

I think skill does matter.Especially on the faster bikes.Like how good you are with a clutch,shifting at the right time,just being able to control the quad.Taking off is very important.It can be the difference between winning and losing.Not just everybody has any business on a drag bike.Very easy to get hurt.At a dirt drag race I went to recently,mine got real close to putting me in the guard rail,and I've been riding for several years.Just alot faster than when I first got it.I think skill is important in racing any quad.Just my 2 cents.

well there are definently skills required to be really good at drag racing but not as in depth as MX. in MX its like a looonnnnnggggg drag race with turns and the start is almost equaly important. im not into the whole spending tons of cash on a drag bike you cant ride off of the strip. you can still drag with a normal quad. i know it wont be as fast but i get my thrills riding other ways. drag racing 50% skill, 50% money. i dont know about those percentages but rider ability playes a much bigger role outside of drag racing. just my .02 tho. have a nice day
btw- this is my 100th post since ive had to create a new user. yay for me...

rider skill definatly has a large part of drag racing. if you cant make clean cut shifts in split seconds you will fall behind unless you are on an alcaholic ds 650 and racing a stock blaster just my .02

Are you nuckin futs? The only time skill won't come into play much in any type of racing is if you've got a really, really fast bike vs. a really, really slow bike. If 2 machines are comparable in horsepower and speed, then it absolutely comes down to rider abilitly to get off the line with out standing it up and hit the shift points at the same time. Even a slower quad can beat a slightly faster one if the slower one has an experienced rider. This is even more true in other types of racing I would guess, as how many times has someone seen a 400ex beat faster quads on the MX track (just an example).

There is most definitely skill in drag racing. When you pair off most quads with another in its own class, there really isn't that much of a difference in performance thats going to guarantee victory just because you have a slightly faster quad. Thats were the better rider comes into play. Just for example, pair off;
Z400-400EX
Predator-Raptor
YFZ450-450R
Yeah, there is a faster quad in each of these pairs but usually they are close enough that the better rider will win.

Drag racing LOTS of skill. There is a gentleman on here by the name of Daren420 that is one of the best racers you will ever meet. His bike is fast, but not near as powerful as the bike boys but he still runs with them because he can ride.

Its pretty simple, anyone who doesnt realize or believe that there is any skill involved isnt involved in any real racing and has no business talking about any of it.
