I have replaced many TFI modules. Its the little square gray or black module where the wiring plugs into the distributor. I suggest replacing the pick-up coil in the distributor at the same time.It is also possible that the E coil (the ignition coil) is bad but more probable that it is the module.Although I only do side work now I was Ford and ASE master certified for 13 years.
I found these also

Thanks Scholle,

This is what I've done so far.

Useing a volt ohm meter Ive got 12v to the coil and the ignition control module. I ohmed the coil and was getting some funny readings so I replaced it. It still does not have spark. I also changed the ignition control module on the distributor, still no spark. Within 3000 miles I've changed the complete distributor, cap, rotor, plug wires and plugs. The distributor was squealing like a pig so that's why it got changed, the rest was a general tune up. The timing chain is intact at least enough to crank over the rockers etc. The distributor rotor does spin as the motor is cranked. These are the things I've done and checked and realy don't know where to go from here. Thanks for any help you can give.

David

I'm betting its your ignition module or the engine control module. Probably ignition module. That's what turns the ground side of your coil on and off for each cylinder to make your spark. It could also be the Engine control module (ECM), that's tied into your ignition module too and could have an effect on it.

Mr Silver, By Ignition module do you mean Ignition control module? That's what's bolted to the side of my distributor. I've replaced that in the attempts to fix this problem. If it is somthing different please explain. Also the ECM you speak of would this be the "brain" PCM? Anyways from what I can tell, the distributor itself that houses what the book says is the pick up coil and is not replacable is what I'll change next, then all that's left is the more expensive PCM. The pick-up is about the only thing left. I should know the answer to your question but it's been a while.

well ill take a stab.....i cant remember off hand but i think if you put a dvom on the wires from the pickup coil and crank the motor itll should make a a/c voltage ,if your not shure i would replace it anyway.also ive gotten new ignition modules, even from ford, that were bad
and on some fords the module is covered under a recall

The Haynes manual says the distributor parts arent replaceable or at least the pick up coil etc. But then it goes on and tells you how to rebuild it to LOL. It'll be easier for me to get a new distributor than to tear this one apart. I replaced this distributor less than a year ago easy, as described above, but things fail I guess. I'll find out if that fixes things sometime this week.

It was the distributor, or at least some part in the distributor. It's up and running again. Time to get rid of it now. Thanks for the help fellas. Tried a Ford forum and got no replies at all. LOL

Thanks
