Default reed spacer/top end

I have a blaster, its modded up a little bit, with, fmf fatty pipe, turbine core silencer, reed spacer, and a 34mm mikuni carb (as far as engine wise) Ive got it jetted just right and its a fresh .030 over bore and piston. runnin 40:1 bel ray with premium gas, a moose racing filter; with all this i have loads of low to mid range torque but NO top end. My sisters BF's blaster has no mods except prcircuit pipe and silencer, and a k&n filter, his has a little less bottom end but a lot more up top.

My question is do reed spacers lower your top end? or is it his PC pipe? or what, any ideas?

Lemme shrink this down.
You have: pipe, filter, spacer, and carb.
He has: Pipe and filter.

The only thing you have that should maybe give you a top end boost over him is a big carb. Reed spacers make a difference but not usually a huge difference. Can you not run without it to find out? do you need to make that carb fit? IMO though either the pipes are making the difference, or your jetting isnt as perfect as you think. Im not really sure what putting a 34mm carb on a stock bike that came with a 26 will do though but I cant imagine it would boost bottom end and hurt top end.

It's way too big for a stock engine. The only way you would need a 34mm carb is for a ported engine or a 240 kit. IMO you should of got a 30mm carb.

Yes it probably is too big, but what hes describing is the opposite of what a carb too big should do. Odd huh. Should probably try the stock carb again though just to find out.

Alright, so the carb is too big, i have an old 28mm mikuni flatside carb off of an rm80, if i cleaned that puppy up and jetted it would it give me better performance than the 34mm round slide?

This may sound stupid, but where did you put the reed spacer? In front of the reed cage or behind it, but in front of the carb plate? I've read alot of info from v-force and delta, and they claim that moving the spacer from one side of the read cage to the other will make a huge difference in performance. Just a thought, don't really know if it does, but I do plan on trying it soon.

This sound's really weird...True the 34mm carb is way to big for a stock engine, but that carb actually should be giving you mostly all top end and hardly any low..I know it dosn't sound right but that's how it is..

Where do you have your reed spacer right now? If it is inbetween the intake and reeds it is top-end oriented. If it is inbetween the reeds and carb it will be low end oriented..
