Spark Arrestor Removal
#2
its actually pretty easy, or it was for me.
You will have to take off the chrome cover and also there is a little screw that holds the spark arrestor in. Once you have removed these thing then get some GOOD pliers or need-nose or vice grips, you will firmly get hold of the exhaust port and begin to twist and turn and pull it to get it out of the silencer.
If you would like I can put up step by step pics if this doesnt help.

I watched my dealer's mechanic do it. He took some locking vice-grips and after clamping on to the tailpipe, tapped it out. He also heated it with a torch before trying this, but just heating the spark arrestor itself.
He said some would come out with your fingers, and some took a little force to get out.

I don't know how you do it on a Raptor, since I don't own one. But with my griz, I just warmed up the engine alittle and used a pipe wrench on the tip coming out of the muffler. Didn't have to twist very hard, once it twisted alittle it came right out. If I leave the tip out that the spark arrester is attached to its alot louder. What I did was cut the spark arrester off the tip. Put the tip back in the muffler, and then its not much louder then it was before, it has a more "explosive" sound now. It did give me alittle more power. Also the bike starts faster, warms up sooner, and runs smoother. It hits harder off the bottom also.

>>With the spark arrester removed, did you notice a HP gain? <<
I havent got a chance to ride it yet after I removed the Spark Arrestor.
>>Is it much louder than stock? << YES, my buddy has a 2001 XR650 and it is quieter than his bike but mine sounds more throaty, I like it!
>>Did you have to rejet? <<
Not yet, if I do I am going to put the spark arrestor back on until I complete the break-in. I beleive the plug color should be a grayish brown right?
