Default installing a HMF pipe

I'm getting ready to install a HMF utility muffler on my 2004 kodiak 450 how hard are the slide on pipes to install. my dealor told me that I might not have to rejet to get low end torque. even HMF claims that just adding the muffler will produce more power. I was going to install a new air filter what kind should I get?
Thanks

Slip ons are just like taking off your stocker and putting it back on, minus the jetting. Sometimes you dont have to jet for a slip on though, but never assume you dont. Running it lean is not a good thing, to say the least. They are jetted rich from the factory, so depending on your evelation, it may not be nessecary to re-jet. But run it for a bit and check your plug just to be safe or you might just be able to feel it. I like twin air filters the best. K and N's flow a little more air but I read that thats because the holes are bigger. They dont keep small particles out as well as others. But then again you cant belive everything you read. I ran a K and N in my KFX and it was fine.

It would be in your best interest to add a performance filter and re-jet as well. The entire package working together is going to be far and away your best bet. Let it breath, let it fart, and keep it tuned.

When I installed my HMF, I did not really notice that much power and torque until after I added the filter and rejet the carb. The power/torque may be there its just not that noticable. The differences that I saw after adding these mods were substantial over stock. I have a friend that has the same quad as I do. After the mods we raced and played around wheeling and what not. I get through the gears alot faster than him and top out. He eventually catches up and stays about 1 quad behind me. Now pulling the front end off the ground is much different. I can do it setting in second, hammering the throttle and pulling back. He has to put one foot back on the rack. Your quad has the same carb as mine. It was pretty dam easy to rejet that thing. If you want or need any advice/suggestions about re-jetting the carb, I would gladly walk you through it.

Mr. DA where did you get your pipe, rejet kit and filters from? What did you pay? I am considering it in the future, I would like a little more torque. Is the HMF pipe the utility series or the Penland series, and did you get the silencer? I wouldn't mind a little more noise if it equals more power.

I bought the package deal from this place. The cost is listed there on the page. It was the utility series and I did buy the arrestor/silencer. I put the silencer/arrestor in and felt that it was not the sound I was looking for. It may be louder than the stocker but not much. ( with it in) I leave it out like I said because I liked the sound better, and it seemed that it is less restricted with it out. This weekend I'am going on National Forest so I'am bringing it with me, but not putting it in unless I get told to. There is definetley a noise increase, but I happen to like the sound of the HMF roaring behind me. Its not overwhelming IMO and like I said it just sounds dam good. Just FYI when I rejetted the carb I never took anything off the quad, except the float bowl. I just unscrewed the boots from the carb, twisted the carb until I could reach the bowl, and then took it off, took out the jet, and put the new one in. I moved the choke and throttle cables out of the way. Very easy. I was intimidated by it at first, but once I got going I quickly realized it was nothing to worry about.

I would recommend doing it all at once. You run the risk of your engine running lean if you dont add the new main jet.
