Starting in gear.
#1
I ride a 2001 Grizzly. Sometimes it will start in gear, and sometimes it won't. Any gear, R/L/H. I have not been able to make a connection as to why it will start in gear sometimes, and at others it won't. Any other Grizzly owners ever experience this? Its not a problem at all, I was just curious.

Companies prevent starting in gear with a wire which disconnects the starting system until it,s in neutral. If it is not a bother do not mess with it but if you want to you can find that wire and replace it for there is propbably a cut in the wire or a piece of the rubber guard is stripped of and it sometimes touches metal wic would allow it to start in gear!!!

Here's the reason sometimes it will and sometimes it won't. It's because sometimes you have the rear brake engaged and sometimes you don't. Yamaha has made it so you can start it in gear just so long you have the rear brake engaged (via hand brake, not the foot).

FKNA,
Your right, thats what it is. As soon as I read your post it dawned on me that everytime it starts in gear I have had the parking brake set. Since the parking brake is set on the hand brake. I have tried to start in in gear with the foot brake held, but that didn't always work. Now that I think about it, the times when it did work, I had the hand brake set at the same time. Thanks man, that clears up a mystery I've wondered about since the day I bought it. Of course I walked out in the garage and tried it as aoon as I was done reading this post, and it worked!
