Default Front sprocket doesn't turn freely, metal shavings around it

Around my front sprocket I have noticed that there is a lot of small metal shavings sticking to the oil around the sprocket. Also the sprocket doesn't spin freely like it used too. My chain and sprockets are pretty much at the end of their life cycle, and I was considering that that could be the source of the metal flakes, but i dont know. Anybody have any ideas about this? Thanks

either the chain has been jumping the sprocket or the sprocket ripples are stripped

But what would cause the sprocket to be stiff instead of turning freely?

a metal shaving could have gotten in the bearings

When you grab the front sprocket and wiggle it is there any up and down or left to right play?
When you spin it is it smooth feeleing but stiff?

If theres no play.........and when you get it to turn its smooth(not grindy feelen) ...........Is there ant oil leeking from there yet?

You probbably ok............ Most of them are a stiff .............was never able to grab mine with 2 fingers and just spin it.

I wouldnt ride it if you think its the chain!!!!!!!!! Dont wanna snap that puppy and trow it through the case!

let us know what ya find out............

It doesnt seem like theres any play in the sprocket when I try to wiggle it. It doesnt seem like it's grinding when it turns, but it's hard to tell. It used to spin much easier than it does now though. When I lift the rear up off the ground and spin the tires it sort of acts like the brakes are applied lightly, but the drag is coming from around the sprocket. From what I can tell theres not much or any oil coming from around the sprocket, but it's hard to tell since the chain throws lube all over that area.
